Just banded in Chicago

Recommended Posts

I'm new to this site which I find so inspirational. I was banded one week ago today and am doing pretty well. I lost 10lbs on my pre-op diet, but only 1lb since I have had the band on (one week). I thought living on chicken broth, Water and Protein Drinks would have merited a greater loss, but not so. :sneaky:

Congrats on your surgery!! Don't worry about your weightloss right now, just take care of yourself. Also, it takes a few days for all of the fluids from the hospital (from your IV) to get out of your system. You may also be swollen and hanging on to excess Water weight. When I came back from the hospital I was probably 4-6 pounds heavier than when I went. But at around day 5, I had lost all of the 5 pounds (almost at once, it seemed), and then continued losing from there on out. Good luck and get lots of rest and fluids!

...sounds like we are on the same journey. I was banded at Alexian Brothers last Friday (July 31). I am a couple of lbs. lighter, but thought I would be further along. I feel great and have very liitle pain, so I guess I'll need to be patient. I must say, I'm not hungry, and have no desire to eat. Looking forward to eating "mushy" foods.

Congratulations dlacny! I am a Chicago bandster too. Post-op I was up about 10lbs (from IV fluids I think), but it dropped off in a week or so. Most important thing right now is to focus on healing. It might take awhile for weight loss to really "kick in," especially before you start getting fills.

I'd love to talk more (been looking for CHI Bandster friends!), so message me anytime if you want to chat. Or maybe we can get together in the city sometime.

Take care!

Val

Chicago bandster as well

I agree with Valjean right no all you need to focus on is healing then start with 30 min. on the treadmill after 2 weeks and then 2 weeks after that get on the elliptical for 30 min. and the treadmill for an hour and that weight will fall off.

Hi Ladies,

It is really nice to see some ChiTown folks. I am hoping to get banded at Day One in Downtown Chicago over within the next few months. It would be nice to stay in touch.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement.

Mrsyellis, I was banded July 30th and found this site to be so incredibly helpful. For instance, after surgery I had the worse shoulder pain ever. For whatever reason, I never put the connection of sugery together with the pain in my shoulder, but as it turns out it, the surgery was the culprit. There is a wealth of information and inspriation on here.

Take care,

Dore

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
