Hello ladies,

Since my surgery July 29, I've gone down in band width of my bra from a 44 to a 42. Now I have to buy a new bra before returning to work Monday.

As you all know, good bras are expensive and as I hope to continue losing weight, I'll be buying them often.

My question is, do I buy the size 42 or do I buy a 40 and use bra extenders so I can get a little more use out of it?

What do you ladies do to keep the girls in proper place while your size keeps changing?

And what about underwire? I haven't worn a wired bra since surgery, but are they a thing of the past now? Granted, they were never comfortable, but they did help with lift.

I would definitely go smaller and get the extenders...bras are so expensive!

I am in the search of the right bra for my new frame and it is costing me a small fortune. My old favorite was a full figure mimimizer. That style is not available in my current size. I am trying to find something that lifts and mimimizes if there is such a thing. The lifting bras I've tried make them look like pointy torpedos and the minimizers tend to push them down too low...

I will say there are plenty of underwire styles out there and they are much more comfortable than they used to be.

I would suggest going with the smaller size, but you will probably need a bigger cup size. I went from a 44DDD to a 40G in the same exact bra, because my band size dropped, but my actual breast size remained the same. So, unless you buy the actual size you need right now, it may not fit you correctly anyway. Good luck!

I would just buy the smaller size and get the extenders. You probably won't need the extenders very long. I have been buying my bras off ebay. They are so much cheaper. You can get Victoria's Secret bras for a reasonable price. I'm not sure what your cup size is, but they go up to size 40DD. My breasts are very large, size 38DD, but they have deflated very badly. I bought a Victoria's Secret pushup bra from ebay and I love it. It lifts, but doesn't make your boobs look all pointy.

I just posted this on another thread too, but thought I would ask on the bra talk thread.

Since I have been losing, I cannot for the life of me find a bra that fits right. I usually buy the boxed kind from Walmart because I have only ever gotten up to a 44DDD and they carry that size. Where is a good place to get an actual sizing for a bra? I can't afford a lot, so pretty sure VS would be out, plus idk if they carry a 42DD. I am just having a really hard time finding a good bra with support, which I really need now.

Have you tried Lane Bryant or Fashion Bug? I know Fashion Bug does free bra fitting. And there bras are resonable. They also have really good sales a lot.

That's a great idea, I even have a coupon for Fashion Bug, didn't know they did sizings. BTW I know this makes me look naive, but what exactly do they do to measure, do you absolutely have to be topless? Not sure how comfortable I'd be with that, but DARN IT I need a good bra!

I think they can measure either way. I think the best way is without your shirt, but with your bra still on. They just measure over the bra. They are very professional. Once you find a style you like, you can also look on ebay and find them a lot cheaper sometimes. Victoria's Secret goes up to 40DD. So once you get smaller, you could go there and have them measure you, then you could find the VS bras on ebay. I can't afford to shop there either, but I buy them a lot on ebay. I found a VS pushup bra on ebay that I really like.

Yea I've been a lot saggier since I have lost weight. Lane Bryant makes a pushup plunge bra that is really good for sag.

My bras were getting too loose and my gals were looking like dropies from the weight loss. I invested in nice bras from Soma intimates, cost a fortune but its worth it. The lift i get from them is incredible and the sales rep measured and gave me the correct size.

More than 80% of all women wear the wrong size bra! They buy what they THINK is the right size. If you are getting closer to goal, you should seriously consider being professionally fitted. Only then will you have a bra that is truly the right size. The feeling of having the absolute right right is amazing! Well worth paying a little extra.

hahahah, I think I have been buying what I *think* I wear...I know, my bad, but I refused to go past a 42. I have a lot of surplus 42 bras that I'm planning on shrinking back into.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
