First Fill Under Fluoro and No Restriction

Recommended Posts

:)

So I had my first fill under fluoro 5 days ago and I have no restriction so far. I thought the fluoro would show the doctor when I was having restriction? But I definitely can eat more than a cup of food at a time.

Also, he put in 5cc. I'm concerned that if I have no restriction at 5cc, is it possible that I'll never have restriction (which will then make my band useless). I'm thinking about sending him an email. Any advice?

When is your next fill? I didn't get restriction til 6cc. With the fluro I am surprised he didn't fill you to restriction, but maybe he was concerned about swelling happening. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Thanks for your reply. He told me at the fill that he saw that I had good restriction, but maybe it just wasn't enough. I guess if I still am not feeling any restriction at the end of next week, I will give a call. I'm supposed to have another fill in 6 weeks, but I don't want to wait so long for that, especially if I'm not feeling any restriction. I'll give an update when I find out whats going to happen!

My doc used fluro too and it took three fills to get good restriction. From how I understood it, the fluro was used to guide the doctor to the port and ensure that he doesn't have to poke you over and over with that massive needle.

Give it a few days - if you still feel like you don’t have any restriction, go ahead and call the doctor to schedule another fill. There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking control of your band and actively scheduling fills when you need them rather than relying on scheduled fills and potentially losing morale and momentum in the mean time.

Each of us are different. Some of us need a lot of restriction and others need very little restriction. While I do believe that doctors generally know best as far as what we should and should not do with the band, they may not know the kind of restriction we need individually. I personally needed quite a bit of restriction as I kept eating around the band. However, for me, restriction came easily and quickly. After three fills and 5 – 6 CCs in a 14 cc band, I’ve lost 173 lbs and am 7 lbs from goal. Some people get to 10 CCs or more before they get good restriction. Other people require very little restriction to lose weight and curb cravings.

Good luck J Also – as parting advice – this never happened to me, but I’ve heard of situations where a person may not experience any restriction until two weeks or so after the fill. I can’t imagine why this happens, but I’ve heard of it enough times to suspect it’s quite legitimate.

Here's a newsflash, something I wouldn't have believed -- sometimes as little as .2cc can make a BIG difference. So trust in the band and let the doctor take you to your sweet spot. 5cc was a pretty aggressive fill and they certainly didn't want to make you too full (trust me, I've been there and you don't want to experience that). You should be close and if you don't try to push it, you may just find that you are full on less than that cup-plus! Most of us overweight people consider "full" to be that Thanksgiving-dinner-two-plates-full-of-food" stuffed to be what "full" feels like. That is overfull. Full is when you eat about 3/4 of a cup of food (I can eat more if it's a salad with meat on it) and you don't get hungry for 4 hours. That's a new way to define full.

Hi

I was reading your post. I have no restriction. I have 7cc in my 10cc band. I go back next thurs for a fill under flouro. It said you can eat more if you eat salad with meat in it. How much should we eat. I have no restriction at all and can eat a huge julliane salad. I am not understanding my band and thus far have gained 4 pounds since my first fill. thanks

I got 4CC's my first fill. Strangely enough when I got up off the table I felt a tighening in my stomach area. However I would not say that I have restriction. The nurse said it could take 2 weeks for restriction to happen. It's been 1 1/2 weeks for me. Next week I will call to see if we can move up the next fill. I dont' want to wait another month without another fill.

I go next thursday for another fill I am hoping this fill will be something I can notice. I do know I am eating less but it is not from restriction, just sheer will power. I lost 3 pounds in 8 days. But only eating salads. I want my band to assist me in my diet but so far NOTHING!!!!! I wish you luck with getting the restriction you desire. I hope you do not have to wait too long for an appointment. I have 7cc in a 10 cc band. I do not have much room left to work with. I just can not see how 3 more cc will help when i feel nothing!!! I do not understand the 2 week wait to see if restriction is going to happen. I would believe you would feel it immeadiately--but I am not a dr. so what do i know??

good luck to you

All my fills are done under flouro too. It is very frustrating IMO because the doctors tend to think they 'see' your restriction and want to go off of that instead of what you feel. I routinely have to push my P.A.s to give me the fills because they think they 'see' me as having restriction.

If you don't feel restriction in a week or so, I would recommend going back in and asking for more. It took me 7.25 cc in a 10cc band before I felt any real restriction but when I got there, it was my sweet spot.

Well, I finally found my sweet spot I think :tt2:

I went to the dr last Thursday the 7th of Oct. He was going to do a fill under fluro. I first had the dr. check to see the amount of soulution in my band as we had believed there was 7cc and when he checked there was only 3 1/2 cc. Boy was I suprised. I have no idea where the other 3 1/2 cc went. Anyways he put me to 5cc and I have lost 14 pounds since last thursday. I know that is fast and I am sure alot of it is Water weight. But now I am not hungry and drink my Protein smoothies and just kinda pick at food. I am finally on my way and so very grateful!!!!:smile2:

Sounds like the Dr may have slipped up and pulled the Fluid on a prior fill and then pushed the 3.5 back in thinking it was the second syringe instead of the prior fills contents

I just had my first fill 2 weeks ago under fluro and I have less restriction that before the fill. That has got to be strange, right? I am just wondering if maybe my stomach has healed a little more from the initial surgery b/c my fill was before the 6 week mark. I am one of the few who had restriction after surgery and lost about 15 lbs and now I have gained 1-2lbs. :crying:So frustrating, going to call the doc tomorrow and see how soon I can get a fill. I was so happy that I went down a size in pants and now scared I will gain again. Until then, I will be fighting the hungry monster. Happy Halloweenie to all! :blushing:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
