A little frustrated at 3 weeks postop

Recommended Posts

I'm in my third week now and am also experiencing a stablization of the scale. I've not lost anything since mid last week. I have a large hematoma around my port site and so my first fill isn't scheduled until 8/24. I'm just keeping portion sizes low and trying not to stress.

Being a "fat" person all of my adult life it is hard to believe the weight is actually going to come off. I am down 27 lbs but have been banded since 03/12/09. But like you said Suzanne, every pound I do not gain is an accomplishment. Those right there are words to live by.

I did go in and get a fill yesterday. Fingers crossed that it does its job for me.

I am scheduled to go in for my first fill on 8/17/09. I haven't read a lot of information about it. Is it painful? What are the restrictions afterward?

Thanks for the help!

Good luck with your fill, I hope this gets you going again.

No it is not painful. I thought it would be too. I mean how can they stick a needle in your tummy and it not be painful, right? It is very easy and you do not even know it is happening. I am sure you will say "That's It"? No worries on the fill.

Thanks Julie! That is what I wanted to hear! I am a whimp. My port site is just starting to feel better, I didn't want to get sore again. Now I am excited.

Slow loss is better loss, healthier loss. I was banded on 6/29 and have lost 2 pounds. I am eating far less than before but my body is holding on to every calorie because it has been traumatized, I know this. I also know that it will get better and the weight will come off. It took me a long time to get this heavy and it will not be an overnight fix. Hang in there, it will get better.

Two others things to keep in mind. If you have increased your exercise your adding muscle, it weighs more than fat. Also moving on from liquids adds to the fecal load your carrying :tongue2: [i know ewwwww, but it does add weight].

We're all on a lifetime journey, relax, take a deep breath and have faith that you and the band are partners together to success! :tt2:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
