So since my surgery consult I have been making small changes in my lifestyle so that it makes things easier. My doctor says I need a 20% weight loss before surgery and we haven't talked about the pre-op diet yet. Anyhow I have almost entirely eliminated fast food from my diet. I had one McDonalds grilled chicken sandwhich (no fries) earlier this week. I have also been with soda entirely! I have lost 7 pounds since my weight in last friday. I am joining a gym today cause I really want to work on my arms. I am afraid with the weight loss I will have lots of skin there since they are sooooo big . Anyhow it is so nice to make changes for myself and know that after the band so many more will happen!

Those changes will certainly be good for you. Fast food is the devil haha. Sounds like you are on the right track. It's funny what we can accomplish when we set our minds to it.

Something I did that I think was really a good idea is: Rid your house of all junk food. Clean out your refrigerator and your pantry. Only keep healthy, low calorie, unprocessed foods in the house. It is much easier to maintain a healthy lifestyle without all that junk food around.

Good luck to you!

Good suggestion! Problem is I live with a roomate and she has a two year old so we have lots of Cereal and Snacks and the sort. I havent' really been tempted while at home though. It's eating out that gets me every time!

That is awesome, and what is great is that you can continue to see results with the band... I have started cutting out fast foods, but sodas are hard for me I love the fizz, but I know that will be a no no once I get banded... Great job:thumbup:

All those changes are great and will only help you along the way and especially after you get your band! Good luck!

WOW requiring a 20% loss before surgery seems a little harsh! I'd never have been able to do it (no matter how much I wanted it) if I'd had to do that! Good luck to you!

I have completely cut out everything fast food and my diet cokes whiched I loved and consumed a lot of. I tried a drink of my husband's diet coke the other day and almost gagged. Yuck! Good Luck to you and hooray for your positive changes.

Restless Monkey I don't think it's harsh I mean you have to make changes with the band and if you don't it can cause harm. That said I don't think 20% is unrealistic at all some places cause you to do a weightless program first or classes. It has been really good for me.

And yaay this morning I weighed myself and I have lost 18 pounds total! Yipee! This week I start with a personal trainer that way I have a support system for working out once the band is in place. I found a gym where for 99 bucks I get once a week personal training plus the membership is included. Super deal for around here plus its an all womens gym!

You have a great attitude! Good luck! I never lost over 45 pounds on a diet in my life (although I've lost 45 pounds many times on different diets!) so I'd never have made it...I haven't even lost 20% yet with the BAND! (that for me would be 81 pounds) Unless the doc meant 20% of your extra, not 20% of your starting weight (which would still be impossibly high for me)

So I'm impressed that you are going for it...good luck! You're already over 1/4 of the way there!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
