Not sure what I should do...

Recommended Posts

I was banded at the end of May (so about 2 months ago) and on the day of my surgery I weighed 217, and then got down to 210 and hovered there for quite a while (about 2-3 weeks). I've gotten two fills in the past month (I had about 2cc in my band already from the surgery, so on my first fill they added another 2cc making the total 4cc, which after this I still didn't feel any restriction. I went in about 2 weeks later and got 3cc more put in for a total of about 7cc). I felt immediate restriction from this and started loosing about a pound a day from Wed to Sun, getting me down to my lowest (post surgery) at 203.5. In the days since I've been steady climbing back up to about 205 and staying there. I'm frustrated because I've been eating healthy and most of that has been Proteins so I'm not sure why this plateau would already be happening after only one week. I also feel like I have quite a bit of restriction so I don't know if getting more Fluid would be the answer. I've dieted before and steady lost about 4 pounds a week on slim-4-life (getting down to about 169) and never hit this many road blocks. What is it that I should do in terms of my eating habits or what I should call and ask the surgeon about? Have any of you experienced this same sort of thing? Any input or advice would be much appreciated, Thanks!:)

Let's see...you've lost 21 pounds in 2 months. That's ahead of the "average 1-2 pounds a week" loss the lap band advertises.

Maybe an appt with your surgeon's nutritionist is in order!

I don't have any advice...just wanted to let u know that u'r not alone. I have only had one fill (4cc) and that was about a month ago now....I haven't lost any weight since then  Looking forward to my appointment for my next fill on 13 August...hopefully the scales will be kinder to me then :tt2:

You are ahead of the curve!!! I'm not a nutritionist or a lap band surgeon :crying: , but here's my take on things....

You lost 5 pounds in 5 days, which likely is part Fluid loss. To lose 5 pounds you actually have to have a decrease of 17,500 calories if my math is correct (3500 per pound), which is impossible for the average person over 5 days . So IMO you have lost some fat and some fluid - so it could simply be your body is rebounding a bit and trying to catch up - with some fluid fluctuations. My suggestion is give it time and see what happens... let your body adjust some more and eat as your doctor suggested. It should all fall into place.

Thank you all for the input/advice. Actually I realize now that I just have to be patient. I lost 2 more pounds over the weekend, which restored my confidence in the fact that as long as I do what I'm supposed to I'll do just fine. Thanks again everyone!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
