Please don't be afraid. This is the beginning of a new life for you, literally. Why haven't you heard from your BFF? Have you tried to text or call her? Maybe she is waiting to hear from you. Check with your doctor and see if maybe they have a patient your age that would be willing to be a lapband buddy with you. Let us know how you are doing. Good Luck!

i know, i wonder if thats why im afraid? but i know i want to change. she was online the other day, i left her a message on her Facebook, but i guess she hasnt been on yet. i left her txt messages and nothing back, i dont think she has minutes are service, most of the time shes at her sister's and i dont know her number, she has a boyfriend/fiance thing, so that also could be a reason why but i dont know, she doesnt treat me like dirt, she'll probably be online soon. that sounds like a good idea (: if i remember ill ask my surgeon friday (:

I know how you feel when you say you want someone close to your age. I'm 26 and feel that way sometimes too. I have made the choice not to share my decision to have surgery with anyone and at times it can be very lonely not having someone who may understand what you are going through. I'm not ashamed of my decision by any means, I just don't want to be starred at or observed as I am going through this process and have people feel the need to ask me if I am okay 10 million times!

Things will get better! I am still waiting to hear back from insurance, doc office assures me they will hear something today and then I can begin the countdown to Lap Band!! Good luck to you! Be sure to keep us posted!!

Erin, I'm sure you'll do great in your surgery.

Have you tried starting a thread on here asking for young LBTers? I know there is a section for 20's, maybe they would be good support system for you.

This will be the most amazing year of your life. I've heard so many on here say they wish they had done this wehn they were younger, so you're one step ahead of the game!

I wish you the very best!

Don't be afriad, it is worth it. I was scared too, but really it is over before you know it. Then you just have to recover and follow the plan but it will changes your life if it is really want you want. I know you can find someone your age at a suuport group or online, these people here are very helpful and supportive. Go for it if is what you REALLY want!!

I know I am older than you but if you ever need someone to talk to please feel free to send me a email. I want to also tell you that I have lost a few of my friends that I thought would always be there for me. I guess they just could not handle the fact that I would be diffrent..I am not sure. It was hard but I have made new friends and got in touch with old friends from school. I have not told everyone what I have done. Its a personal choice really. Don't be scared this will be a new chapter in your life:biggrin: its one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Keep us updated on how it goes.

Erin,

Best of luck on surgery day. I won't be back online until Monday, but I'll check back to see how you are doing.

You're young, I'm sure you'll bounce back really quickly. It took me about a week to start feeling like myself again, but I have a friend that I met on LBT and we have the same doctor. She had her surgery on Friday and was back at work on Monday, so you never know.

I'll be thinking about you!

Hey Erin,

I know exactly how you are feeling, but the Lap-Band is not a cure-all. My boyfriend has had to remind me of this on more than one occasion. When we lose weight, we're going to lose weight. It's not going to fix everything we hate about our bodies or solve all of our problems. So don't wait until you drop the weight to live your life, start now!

p.s. if you need someone to talk to that's close to your age you can PM me any time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
