what type of band?

Recommended Posts

Hey fellas.. was wondering to those who were banded already what type of band did you have put in?

My surgeon does both types and usually leans towards the realize band. However he insisted that since I was a male to have the Lap-band band put in. He said it "fits" the male anatomy better.

So.. just curious.. what type of bands do you all have?

also.. do you guys have a lot of PB/stuck incidents?

Im hopefully going in for my first fill next Thursday, I can't wait.. I am adhering to my diet of mushy foods (thank heaven for mashed potatoes) but food isn't filling me up like it did. Ever since my swelling went down my weight loss and feeling of fullness just stopped outright. So im hoping a fill will get some of that back!

I never heard that about the lap-band. I got the realize band because of the lower profile port.

Even so my port makes is a small lump on in otherwise round belly. Anyone else experience that?

I have the Lapband. There is a comparison thread from Alex a little ways back on this forum that is really really good. I also heard from someone else on this forum that the Lapband was better for males. I personally liked the Lapband because there were two sizes and I had a host of other reasons. I actually liked the fact that the port was higher because I thought it would make it easier for my surgeon to find and was right as she had no problem finding it. It is really a personal choice as they are both good tools.

Yah. They sure do both seem similar. As I suggested, a blind idiot could find my port with his hands tied behind his back.

Ok, maybe not without hands. but it is JUST below the surface. I'm thinking this is pretty abnormal. Did the docs screw up? (this actually bugs the hell out of me.)

I had the Realize band and have been really hapy with it. Lots of people have lots of opinions. I don't really have strong opinions, except that for me the Realize band has worked great and I've had great results. My surgeon said that he wouldn't decide for sure until he actually began operating, because he said that until he actually saw my anatomy because different bands fit work differently with different anatomies. For me, his openness in that regard really made me feel comfortable trusting his choice. I would say the most important thing is to feel confident in your surgeon.

I think I'm an Allergan AP, 10cc. Zero fill at the moment, to be revisited in a month.

I have the 4 cc lapband and the port is about 3 inches below my ribs on my left side

I have a Realize Band. It holds 10 cc, I am at 9.5. It has been 16 months. I only notice the port when I am laying flat on my back because there is a slight bump. Otherwise, not noticeable.

I chose the Realize band for the web-site and when I held both bands, the Realize band seemed like it would be a smaller thing to have inside me forever.

So far I am down 105 pounds, so it's doing it's job!

I have the Allergan AP 10cc band. The port is about 6 inches down from my sternum. Kind've awkward location. I definitely feel it. No problems with PB, no fill yet. We'll see.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
