Hi All,

I am a little confused and I am sorry if this issue has been addressed somewhere in this forum already...but, I am confused about slider foods. I always thought slider foods were things like, puddings, Jello, Soup but I have read about chips, pretzels, cake, crackers being slider foods, this is causing my confusion. Are slider foods things that pass straight through or do they stay in my pouch? Should slider foods be avoided.....or are they ok in between meals.

I am working very hard to stay with the program and work through the time I am a little hungry. I am 3 weeks post-op on soft solids, and am down 21 lbs. and have only had 2 days where I felt really hungry, sugar free jello cured it

Seems like we all have some slider foods in common - pudding, ice cream, high caloric liquids. And then there are other junk foods that slide down for some people, but not others - soft cheeses, chips, cake, etc.

Interesting that the foods that are worst for us are mostly the ones that slide right down, hm?

All of these foods should be avoided. Not just because they won't fill you up, but also because they just aren't that healthy and one of our goals is to eat as healthy a diet as possible.

Also, I was told that I can have three meals + one healthy snack each day. I don't think most of us eat between meals, but instead rely on the band to keep us satisfied all day long.

Ice cream and pudding consistency is the easiest to slide for me (thank goodness I'm not really into sweets!). If I'm having trouble with a lot of foods, usually I CAN get some chips or crackers down, but I have a definite limit on those and they don't just "slide" for me. Cake is a big no-no for me and rarely goes down easily. Mashed potatoes are sometimes too gloppy and get stuck. And I sometimes even have trouble with thick, creamy Soups if my band is being stubborn! So yes, everyone is different; you'll learn from trial and error!

Questions like this are tricky do to everyone being different. Foods like chips and Cookies are slider foods because when you chew them, they easily dissolve in your mouth, and slide right through. Like if you sucked on a chip, in a few, it would dissolve, as do sugery things. Foods already "liquidy" like pudding and Soup are of course slider foods. That being said, meat and veggies are NOT slider foods, and should be eaten first, with sliders on the way back burner. Please stay away. Even the 100 cal snack packs are evil- watch out for them.

Thanks all for your help! So far I don't have a problem staying away from junk food. I can have 3 -4oz meals and 2 -2oz Snacks a day, and I love cottage cheese so that or yogurt has been my snack when I need one.

I usually have fish or really mushed up chicken salad as my Protein for my meals. Can't wait until I get on regular food!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
