9 day pre-op liquid diet...protein shakes

Recommended Posts

How much did you guys lose those 9 days? What did you do for the exercising? Im getting bored of the treadmil so i think im going to walk out side, what else can i do thats fun? The Protein Shakes aren't a big deal to me I've had Protein shakes when I was on a diet at 15 yrs old, I actually like them, but only the vanilla ones, how many times a day am I supposed to have the shakes? 4? Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and an hour before 8pm? I start mine on the 22nd,Thanks for your help(:

Hey Erin! Well, the answers to your questions will vary! Each doctor has their own way of doing things. Some have not even had a pre op diet! But most do. Mine is 14 days, I had slim fast and Protein Shakes -4 times a day for the first 3 days. Then I added a small garden salad with fat free dressing the rest of the time. (my surgery is Tuesday.) I have gotton so tired of the shakes that I called and asked permission to have low sodium v-8. I haven't been as good as most people seem to be. I cheated with deviled eggs and a lean cuisine during this time. It amazes me because when I began, I thought that anyone would be crazy to be so near surgery and eat what you shouldn't. Don't do like I did, I regret it,,,lol.

So, as for the times to have your Protein shakes -I called and asked the nurse the same question. She said just whenever-to spread them out. Maybe you can call your nurse to check, though.

I've lost 14 pounds, but I have a lot to lose. I think a lot is Water weight also.

Don't be afraid to call and ask questions. I am sure the doctors and nurses are very used to it.

GOOD LUCK, sweetie!

oh yes, do not forget to drink water all day. I did not drink enough at first and got legs cramps in the middle of the night -took potassium and upped the water after that.

So far I have lost 19 lbs so far and its day 12 of my preop diet. I have a really busy job, so I am on my feet and running around most of the day. I'm usually too tired to do a traditional workout (I know, I know...I will start after surgery) but I add things in my day like taking the stairs if its only 1 or 2 flights or parking far.

P.S. dont do the slim fast shakes, they have lots of sugar and will do nothing to help you. I have Protein Shake in morning followed by 2 snacks: either cheesestick or Protein shot. For lunch or dinner I usually eat a Soup of some sort (my preop diet is a full liquid diet, so I can). At night I might have a sugar free popsicle or sugar free pudding. Somewhere in there I have starbucks something or other, cause I gotta stay awake to study. I also eased into my diet by taking the first 3 days and gradually adding or subtracting one thing of another...helped me to not go crazy.

I am on day 10 of a 14 day all liquid diet. So far, I have lost 14 lbs. It is very hard, but I know it will be worth it soon. I don't like the Protein Shakes, so I have struggled to get in the 80g of Protein required per day. It is worth it though! I can already see a difference in my face and neck. It is very exciting. Good luck to everyone. My surgery date is July 24th... this Friday!

good job everyone (:

yes the slim fast isnt good, my doctor has their own Protein Shakes that he wants me to use and they are called HMR 800-low fat-rich in protein-excellent source of calcium-it says on packet and you get vitamin/mineral supplement pills with it you take every day you get 8 per box and 18 Protein Shake packets per box, 170 cals for vanilla 16g of Protein per packet. the shakes dont bother me cause im so use to them.

i am so excited too, i cant wait to see the looks on peoples faces when they see me in september :wink2:

MoxieDO-thats awesome you lost 19lbs i hope i can lose between 14-20lbs before surgery, that'll be great

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
