How important are clear liquids for 2 days after a fill?

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill yesterday and was told to stay on Clear Liquids for 48 hours. I figured this would be no problem after undergoing the initial post op diet, but what I didn't realize is that I am WAY more active now then I was right after surgery. I have been feeling shaky and light headed all day, and I can't seem to find a clear liquid that has helped the situation at all. Would a Protein Shake really kill me?

My band only holds 4cc. I was banded with .9cc, and was filled to 1.5cc yesterday. It's frustrating that there really isn't a standard for diets after fills! Every doc seems to have their own agenda!

In things like this, I think it's a good idea to evaluate the risk versus the reward.

The risk is that you could irritate your freshly tightened stoma. If that happens, food could get stuck, you could vomit, and need to have the fill removed. There are other worse scenarios, but this is the most likely.

Worth it? Not for me. Being stuck is awful. Going for fills, unfills, and refills sucks even more.

Just had a fill today, was told to drink liquids and thats defined as anything that you could drink through a straw. But every doc is different so follow your directions. Saw on here early that someone had to be completely unfilled because they did not do liquids after a fill. Think I'll stick to the program.

powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth Protein powder (21g protein), and Isopure Protein waters (40 g protein p/20 oz bottle) or New whey Protein Bullets (42 g protein) should count as clear liquid. Unjury you need to order online. The others you can get at GNC.

Good luck!

Just thought I'd jump in here and say that if you are diabetic watch the meds you take. Maybe you should ask the Dr about reducing them while you are on liquids. I check my sugar and adjust the meds accordingly......

My Dr just tells me liquids and like the other poster can be anything that would go through a straw. I usually do egg drop Soup and any kind of Soup that isn't thick. I also eat grits but I am a southern gal.....

I have had two fills now, and I stick with liquids the first day, then very soft mushies for a few days after. I make sure the mushies are soupy in consistency. Like others, I find my band feels tighter after a few days pass by. I sure don't want to get so comfortable with shoveling a load of food and trying to swallow on the same day my band decides to kick in! That's been one of the biggest changes for me, trying to keep my bites tiny.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
