Possible loss of coverage

Recommended Posts

Hello all... Thanks for taking a look at this.. Okay here I go.. First of all I am 27. (This will matter when you continue to read)

I started this lapband journey about a year ago.. My insurance requires 6mo. supervised diet (as about all do).

Well I had my consultation with my surgeon and he says that because of my PCOS I may only be able to lose 50 lb. He just wanted to know if I would be satisfied with that outcome. He continued to persue lapband for my surgical choice. My husband works in the "coal mining" industry and if anyone has watched the news, you can see that it will probably not be around in the future, meaning that we will NOT have the same insurance that approved the surgery in the first place.

My biggest fears are..

1. I have the lapband and lose little or no weight.

2. I am young, if complications occur after 10 years and I have another insurance company, they will not pay.

3. We may lose our current insurance before I get my first fill. (can't afford to pay out of pocket)

With all of this said, let me know what you guys think.. I am considering the RXY due to the "less maintenance" of the course of a lifetime.. I know complications can ALWAYS happen but at least I won't have to count on the fills/unfills or the more common slips, erosion and port flipping..

Hi spauding01 (from a coal miners daughter-granddaugther & great granddaughter)

1.) This is a common fear and it was my biggest. I also have PCOS and as you can see from my milestones below, you can lose weight successfully. As a matter of fact, my PCOS symptoms went away almost immediately. I have been off my Metformin since the beginning.

2 & 3.) We are all pretty much in the same boat as far as not knowing what will happen in the future. Any one of us could change jobs or lose our current coverage-especially in todays economy. It is a risk you will have to weigh for yourself. It took just under a year and six fills for me to reach my goal. It is a necessary part of the process so if you think you may not be able to maintain it then another route may be best.

Good Luck in whatever you decide!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
