Day 3 of the liquid diet and I am so hungry I can't stand it. I was good until about 4:30. I heated up some chicken broth (low sodium) which I am allowed to have unlimited amounts of...it's disgusting! No wonder you can have as much as you want! I have 11 days left....ugh ugh ugh!!

My dietician suggested that for the really "bad" days, use your immersion blender on anything you can think of - within reason - and make it the consistency to suck thru a straw.

Specific suggestions were:

Progresso Light or Regular Soups - entire can is usually between 150-300 calories.

Canned fruit in Light Syrup - syrup drained.

Homemade Jamba juice - Fruit smoothie - Frozen fruit (I bought the big mixed bag from Costco), 1/2 a frozen banana (very ripe), skim milk, ice, make sure to add a scoop of Protein powder to it for extra staying power in the tummy. I even bought some popsicle forms and made some popsicles, the hubby and the mother-in-law are even liking them. This is my personal fav!

Cream of Wheat or Rice - done really thin with skim milk and a couple spoonfuls of vanilla Protein powder.< /p>

Good Luck, I officially start the liquid thing tomorrow. I am really trying to prep my brain for it. Be Creative, YOU CAN DO IT!!! YOU WILL DO IT ! ! !

My dr. requires 2 weeks of a shake only diet. The hospital prefers we use the HMR brand which they sell there. This program consits of a Vitamin (provided) 2 shakes for Breakfast, 2 shakes for lunch, 1 shake for dinner and another Vitamin. The cost of this program is $60 a week which is out of pocket. I would love to know if anyone else is doing an HMR diet or has in the past!

Wow! I also have to do a shake only diet for 2 weeks. Today is day 1 and i have to say im not happy:wink2:... Mine is either 5 packages of carnation instant Breakfast (no sugar) with 8 oz of fat free milk OR 5 packages of Bariatric Advantage shakes with WATER! YUCK..:cool2: It tastes really bad with Water. Im waiting for the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury samples to come in the mail. Its very close to the B.A advantage shakes so i'll try those instead.

The Carnation is by far alot better! Im using high Protein skim milk with it for an added 12g of pro.

Hope ur diet goes well! best of luck..

Well I start my pre-op diet on monday and have been trying different shakes here and there to narrow it down so far:

- Kelloggs RTG Protein shake in choclate....very decent as long as you remember to shake, shake and shake the crap out of it somemore before tasting it. Great on the go !!

- Jay Robb whey Protein isolate in choclate....like ultra sweet choclate crap !!! OMG this was horrible it's like they took a bucket of splenda and added choclate to it

- Green foods Protein powder...please just shoot me NOW !!! or better yet just stick toothpicks under my nails..my god I couldnt get this out of my mouth fast enough !! Imagine mixing kale, spinach and broccoli with milk and choclate in a blender and gulping that down !! YUCK !! GAG !!!

I bought the Atkins dark choclate RTG ones to try on sunday so I'll let you know how that goes...hopefully much better !!

I started my 10 day pre-op today. My insurance is still in pending. Gonna be mad if they deny it 9 days from now! Hubby supposed to call on Monday when they are open to see if he can expedite.

Normally I do the HMR shakes, very good with a variety of additives. I usually add a drop or two of various extracts into the shake to make it taste better. Mint, Orange, Almond, Amaretto, Black Walnut, Cherry, Raspberry and strawberry go good with chocolate shakes. Orange, Apricot, Peach, banana, Cherry, Hazelnut, Maple, Lemon, Lime, pineapple, Raspberry and strawberry go good in vanilla shakes. The caloric content varies, but its roughly about 30 calories per tablespoon and I only add a few drops for flavor so Its almost moot.

Sometimes I also add instant coffee to chocolate for a mocha taste. Decaf is probably best.

Anywho, I did buy some of the Atkins Advantage shakes today, they were pricey, but they didn't taste horrible. I had the Mocha made with coffee one. Not too bad for an on-the-go shake. Filled me up for a good 2 hours. Hope you find a shake that works for you! And if you find one that you can tolerate, doctor it up with a little extra flavor. Maybe you'll find one you really enjoy. My favorite is vanilla with Maple.

Breakfast Protein Shake

mid morning snack 6 ounces diet OJ, or V8 splash

Extra snack

protein shake OR

6 oz of lite no sugar added Yogurt and 1 oz or mixed nuts OR

Any diet, sugar free beverages, I can still have my diet pepsi up till day b4 surgery.

this diet summary is 80gr. carbs , 60-80 gr. protein and 1000 calorie.

i think this will not be bad, i opted for cheese and fruit for my snack and the frozen meal basically not potatoes, Pasta or rice in it, Not much to choose from. I hope to lose 15 lbs in the next 2 weeks . ready for the 7th of August to be here.

Just called to double check that I don't need a liquid diet. The nutritionist said that as long as I maintain at least 5% loss from my starting weight, I won't need to do a liquid diet, other than on the day before surgery. I did find out I have to do bowel prep :crying: which means I will have to take the day before my surgery off of work, which I had not planned on doing. I go for my pre-admission testing and appointment on 8/4/09. Now that I have a surgery date, time seems to be going so fast! I am not so worried about the surgery, but stressing about getting all kinds of other things in my life taken care of (i.e., give the house a thorough cleaning, stocking up on "easy" meals for the hubby & kids, getting caught up on my workload at work, etc.) so that come surgery day I will have nothing to worry about!

I have a pre-op appointment on 8/10 in anticipation of surgery on 8/26, but I've been told by the staff at the weight loss clinic that there is no pre-op diet. Hmmmm. After reading all of your posts, I'm feeling like it might be smart to do one anyway. Then again, if these are my last days for Diet Coke and beer.... :smile2:

Hey Jacqui - I think you started your pre-op diet today...hope it went well!! I've got to share, I'm in love with Slim Fast Optima chocolate Royale (powder form), for anyone who is stuck for a good drink. I mix it with 1 cup skim milk, 1/2 cup ice and I feel like I'm cheating by drinking a chocolate milkshake. Give it a try if you haven't already! Good luck everyone!

I am not sure if anyone has posted about this shake already but I found a Protein Shake that is not bad...It's Body Fortress Super Advanced whey Protein Cookies'n'Cream. One scoop has 130 calories and 26g of protein. I mixed it with 4 oz of 1% milk, alot of ice, blended it in my magic bullet, and I actually enjoyed it!! I bought a 2lb bottle for 13.96 at Walmart which isn't bad either.

My surgeon requires a one week pre-op diet for those with a BMI under 50 and a two week diet for those with a BMI of 50 or over. Basically it's two Protein Shakes a day (you can choose from several different brands), and a small meal each night of Protein and veggies. I haven't started it yet, but I think I'll be able to manage just fine. I feel sorry for you ladies whose doctors are making you stick to a liquid diet before surgery! I couldn't do it.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
