Ok mine will probably sound pretty silly...but I did have 1 chocolate chip cookie  I promised myself I wouldn't tempt myself or even try something so not right for my diet until at least a year out.

I also have a tendancy to mindlessly eat Edamame seeds and boy does my band wake me up when I do *ouch*

Personally I think it's just food, not murder, not pedophilia, not stealing. I don't think of food as being a sin. I think that all ties in with the "fat people are lazy and dumb and have character flaws" mentality. it's just food. I'm past having to feel guilty if I eat a cookie. Because I have the lap band and my "relationship" with food is different. I don't count or weigh or fret. I'm just eating normally and I'm fine. My thin friends don't say "OH I SINNED yesterday". Don't mean to be pompous, but I think that for many of us, food is too darned important. This just adds to it. It's fuel. It's not a moral dilemma. Ok off my soap box and on to my first 16 oz of Water today.

All though I can say what you just said is 100% SO true but for me I guess I am still in that mode of always having to defend my obesity and this is how "I" deal with it so to say that is why I was so apt to join in and confess my sins! But one day just one day I hope to get the frame of mind you have restless, I am so serious you are a great "tool" yourself to many of us!!!! And it might take you being as stern as you are in this post many times more for "us" to understand or get it..I know for me it might take double but at the same time too am very grateful that you are around to pull us through or rather wake us up give us a swift kick LOL!!! Ok just wanted to say that!

rcruz, thanks. and luluc I'm not shocked you have crazed friends LOL

Maybe being older I got a lot of that "character" junk from docs etc. It's only recently they realize obesity is a disease and not some failing within (like they used to think schizophreniza was caused by "cold" mothers. snort!)

ANYWAY...it's something I always try to speak out against, even when it's usually light-hearted (like this post) .... kind of like positive self-talk for everyone!

I have to admit in the beginning I thought you were just down right mean...LOL!! But after a while "knowing" you (here on the board) I found to realize if I sit here and read alot of your post it makes TOTAL sense and it even soaks in believe it or not! That is why I give you lots of kuddos LOL!!!

You made me laugh! I am sorry I ever seemed mean!

I think sometimes it's hard to get across in this format.

And, honestly, I can be mean, but usually only after someone is mean to me first! I am a tough love type I guess. But I want everyone who posts here to succeed! My dad used to call me "border collie" because that breed of dog is good at making everyone move along. I THINK he was being nice; you never really knew with my dad! :crying:

Crap I didn't mean to use the word "mean" I think you hit the nail on the head its' called "tough love" but coming from my point of view, that have had their heart broken time and time again that is all I knew is mean...That is great we have a "collie" type becasue I know I look forward to reading your post almost to the point I use it mostly for education purposes meaning no sugar coat no none of that anymore like that ole saying crap or get off the pot my MOM would say and she would say it now if she were here with me...

LOL it's ok. I think I knew what you meant! Besides if I'm going to dish out "tough love" I have to be able to take it too, don't I?

Anyway thanks again for saying such nice things to me!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
