CPAP machine w/no insurance

Recommended Posts

Yes sir, did you need one or someone you know? I went through so much drama with the sleep study doctor that the company sent me a huge bouqet of flowers the day of my surgery, to apologize. I was told I HAD TO take it to the hospital for my surgery. I never used it at home or even at the hospital. The nurse checked it in and put it over on a shelf. Guess what I am still here, snooring and sleeping peacefully.

Teresa,

Were you told that you have sleep apnea? If you do have it, you should be using the machine not giving it away. I had sleep apnea before my surgery (actually was diagnosed way before I even thought about WLS) and it was pretty scary. I would wake up in the middle of the night with what I thought were panic attacks but after seeing a cardiologist and then the pulmonologist was told I had sleep apnea. The "panic attacks" were actually the episodes of me not breathing and then when I would finally breathe again, my heart would be racing because it was trying to catch up. Sleep Apnea is very serious and shouldn't be taken lightly. After I lost about 35 lbs. I started to wean myself off the machine and now I don't use it anymore.

Hi Chris, yes I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and I have already heard the speech about using it. But what some foks don't know are the exensive circumstances around the diagnosis. With that said and after seeing my internal medicine doctor, my cardiologist, me sleeping peacefully through the night except for potty breaks. I am still here and kicking without problems. I have lost 40 pounds and I sleep better then before and with every 40 pounds I loose it will get better and better but as far as my breathing and heart during sleep. Everything seems to be just fine. Chris I love you and thank you for your concern.

How much have you lost and how large is your band. I have a 4cc band with 1.3cc fill.

You guys are tooooo thoughtful. It will be in the closet. My surgeon even had to reprimand the sleep study doctor. I'm lovely though, really. Thank you again.

We just worry Teressa. It would be like a diabetic saying that they didn't need thier insulin or someone with high blood pressure saying that they didn't need their meds.

sleep apnea is potentially leathal. Deadly. we don't want you pushing up the daisies before your time. Please have another sleep study!

Thank you again. Vinesqueen I talked to my doctor and my surgeon about pushing my surgery date back and getting another study and they went over my history and did not see a need for another study.

okay... grudgingly....

I knew there was no way I had sleep apnea, and there was no way I needed one of those machines. I was just not sleeping anymore. I was suddenly chronically insomniatic, that was all, just suddenly.

Well, it turns out, insomnia doesn't really happen that way.

Turns out the reason I felt like I never got any sleep was because I didn't actually ever get any sleep. The average "normal" person has something like 20-30 "arousal periods" in a night where they are almost fully awake. I had over 180 arousal periods because I would stop breathing. 180 times a night I would stop breathing...

And my snoring wasn't "that" bad. So. This is why I was concerened

Thank you Vines but I'm just not feeling it. Believe me if I ever have any type of sleeping issues I will consult my doctors and mention the sleep study so we all will be aware. At this point I'm not using it and I'm not going to. I wake up about 3 times during the night that I know of and 2 of them are to go to the bathroom LOL. I wake up before my clock goes off and instead of trying to get 5 to 30 more minutes of sleep I get up. I am a morning person and feel great. Sometimes I try to get a little exercise in.....sooommmeettimmmeesssss. LOL

If you feel great in the mornings then you ARE doing great without it!!!!!!!

I can hardly wait to lose enough weight to ditch mine.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
