Any Recent Mexico Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have recently decided to get a lap band and will be doing it with Dr. Ortiz in TJ Mexico because my insurance won't pay:frown:. My concern is that I have a friend that lives in S. California and she says that the Mexican borders are very dangerous right now. I am wondering if anyone has recently been through the border and if it seemed dangerous. It is stressful enough to go out of country and make this big decision but I don't want to put myself in a dangerous situation. Any advice?

i cross the border in TJ twice a month. Unless you are selling drugs, buying drugs, walking the streets, partying in the bars etc you will have no problem. you odds of being in a car crash driving to San Diego are higher.

Your friend clearly doesnt go to Mexico.

I assure you they will be happy to pick you up at the border if you are worries about it. its really no big deal.

I had LP surgery in Mexico on 6/26/09. no worries and it was easy crossing the boarder. No swine flu, no hostages...crime etc....do your self a favor and get banded! Good luck!

I was banded on 7-2 by Dr. Ortiz also and had no problems coming or going. If you are being picked up by the OCC, you will be shuttled to and from. They have lots of experience with it.

Good luck.

Were her right now...and you dont have to worry at all. Its VERY nice and its just like the states. You have to understand that US is like 10 miles north so they get a LOT of $$$ from the states with the people coming down and it shows.

You will be picked up from the airport as soon as you land, taken to the center to fill a few forms, then taken to your hotel.

Next morning go to OCC, see the doctors and by the way everyone is GREAT. You will be in surgery for about 30 min. I hear that opperation only takes about 10 min if that.

My wife is at OCC right now. Also dont worry about calls...when your in the room you have free out going and incoming calls also free wifi.

You made a GREAT choice in seeing Dr. Ortiz. He is a GREAT guy and really cares for his job.

Good luck let us know how it goes. Read my other post on Post-op called (

"where here...shes banded"

I was just at Dr. Ortiz's office on Monday and had absolutely no problems crossing the border. I too was very nervous about going into Mexico but had OCC pick me up and drop me off on the US side... it was nothing like I expected! DO IT!

It depends on where you cross too...I'm from El Paso (across from Juarez) and many people in El Paso won't go to Juarez right now (and we ALL used to cross all the time)...just depends on where you are, and if you're unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
