There was a time when... pre-band...I could eat about anything(except of course those critters on some of those

island reality shows!).

My 1 st fill is tomorrow, but I do find that I have a small bit of restriction even without it.

However, I find that some things which I used to find tempting are absolutely disgusting once I get a taste ..at times.

This afternoon I settled in to eat a nice Italian Pasta lunch, put one forkful in my mouth, got nauseous at the very taste and spit it out. The entire thing is out in the garbage.

At other times I have scrambled eggs for Breakfast or lunch and I love them. The next day it is impossible to even stand the smell! (no, I am way past menopause, just in case you're wondering LOL)

Any one else have a strange appetite now that you are banded?

Well, I can tell you that I experienced something over the weekend that I never thought would ever happen in my lifetime. I took a bite of corn on the cob (sweet corn) and it was TOO SWEET! ME??? Say something was too sweet???? Never. Well, since giving up refined sugar when I got banded, I guess my tastebuds have changed! OMG!:) So, what did I do? I salted it down and ate it. LOL  It was quite nice then.

I am glad that my tastes are changing, though!

Anything with real sugar in it. The DH and I got some brownies from a restaurant that screwed our order up, I went to take a taste and spit it out. I had Ice cream on the 4th and though I ate the whole thing (I'm sick, and I thought it would at least soothe my throat) I was sooo ill afterwards.

I went to take a sip of some coca cola that had been out for at least an hour, and almost puked, it tasted raunchy... AND I'M THE COCA COLA KID!!!!! I've just found that anything that has sugar in it, like real sugar makes me nausious. I never really had a sweet tooth to begin with, but I haven't had real sugar in about 3 months, Everything has been diet or Equal. Heavy foods aren't too pleasing to me either. I've been eating a lot of salad with grilled chicken because that seems to be my safety zone. I'm a picky eater to begin with, so it just got like 15X's more complicated lol.

And my b-day is next week and the DH keeps asking me what my fav. Cake is, I have a feeling I'm going to be picking up a Gleuton/Sugar free vegan cake so I can eat something.

I'm with you, Sarah, on the homemade ice cream on the 4th. It was way too sweet (but I loved it anyway). I don't think I can eat mushrooms anymore, scrambled eggs are not that good anymore. With my diet plan, I'm not allowed to eat salad yet nor Pasta or rice. GB

Pasta & rice have been my saving graces. I don't eat mushrooms lol, I just never liked them, they used to creep me out when I was little, so I avoid them at all costs! and if I have something with them in it, I pick them out and give em to the DH. I AM THAT PERSON that asks for a second plate to pick things out of my food to put on the side. I've been a server before, so I know How obnoxious it is to alter an order. So I order as is, and pick.

Rice has been tricky though. I PB'd some spanish rice and Beans last night, and I've read on a few surgeons websites that rice is to be avoided, My doc says it's just fine.

Have you had Pastina yet? since your on mushies, Pastina should be fine. I alternated with Pastina with some butter, and Polenta with salsa & cheese. I survived!

My body as gotten use to only healthy foods now....Low fat, low sodium, low sugar etc...I actually experienced something I never thought would happen. It was my B-day and went out to eat at PF Changs...I got my fav which is twice cooked noodles. Well the food was fantastic however a few hours after eating it my blood pressure went up, I got a headache and felt horrible. This last for 24 hours. Later that week I went to the doc and asked him and he said the sodium in the food caused it. When you body gets used to certain things and something drastically changes for example the high sodium you will feel it. So yes I refuse to eat certain things because I know my body will actually feel the physical effects of it. Dont need that junk anyway...I am sticking to what I know makes me feel good. Healthy foods!

With me it's potatoes. I have been having a small one in the micro every day to get in my potassium to balance with the meds I take for Blood Pressure.

I tried rice pre-fill and it was ok.

I mentioned to the P's Assistant on tues about the distasteful feeling I get at times and she said that Banders begin to feel that way especially when food is nuked in the micro. A film coats the food and we are sensitive to the texture and taste. I do notice, though, that my buds are more sensitive and I am more picky in my taste than before. I could eat anything pre-band.

I am changing for the better.

Now to get more weight off me.

I was just looking online at the summer clearance sales and decided to wait it out until late summer to get a whole NEW WARDROBE!!! Yay! Now that's looking ahead!

Congrats bearbandit on your 110 lb loss!

I hear you about the B Pressure.

I had beef broth(neglected to see that it did not say 'low sodium') after my fill and one taste told me I was going to be in trouble.

I woke up Wed morning with squirrel cheeks and feeling like I weighed 20 lbs heavier, not to mention groggy and hung over! All from the sodium in the broth after watching my intake for months. Salt is deadly.

As for sugar..I tried an oatmeal packet and it was so sweet I have to dump the whole lot.

I always detested the taste of splenda, but now I am used to it and it is my sweetener of preference, although I don;t use it on much.

Aspertame and the stuff in Crystal Light tastes like chemicals straight out of the lab to me. I feel like I am being poisoned when I drink the stuff. Even sugar free popsicles leave that chemical aftertaste.

I must say, though...I am SOOO wanting a rootbeer popsical now after starting the popsicle treat after surgery...childhood reminders I imagine. But I gotta get just ONE. (I hope it doesn't turn into the desire for a creamsicle and a fudgesicle too LOL)

I ramble. Good to read the posts.

Singin' Weight watchers makes a Low fat creamsicle, and they aren't that bad- The DH can not tell the difference, Thats how I know what has been successful in getting my household healthy with me (except my son b/c he needs to gain weight- he only absorbs 2% of the fat he ingests) Believe it or not, the weight watchers line of products have been little saviors to me, because they are low fat, low sodium high Protein and Fiber, the cheeses are REALLY good, and they melt beautifully. So next time your in the supermarket, I suggest looking to se if your local one carries the ww ice creams..... I recomend!

BTW, The box comes with 6, 3 Wildberry cream, and 3 orange, I actually just tasted the berry one, it was as good as the orange... I hope your search is successful, because believe me, It feels good eating melted (and Ice cream) cheese without feeling guilty :tongue_smilie:

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
