I have found that powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury is really good. I mix some Peanut Butter into the chocolate one and that is very tasty. I also like to add some instant coffee to change the flavor, as well. They even make a chicken Soup that has 21 grams of Protein but only 90 calories. That is a comforting switch from the shakes.

One tip that I found that also helps is about the foam. When I would blend the shakes they get so foamy that the consistancy, post the surgery, made it really hard to get them down. Sipping foam was hard to do. So I let them sit for about a minute and then pour slowly using a blade of a knife to keep the foam in the cup. That way you just get mostly a smooth drink and no foam. I found that it helps.

I also like the Unjury. I however like the unflavored kind. You can mix it in with any Soup you want and bump up the Protein by 20 grams. I recently discovered mixing it with SkinnyCow fat free chocolate milk. It adds 11 grams for a total of 31 grams of protein for 8 oz. It adds up to about 200 calories but I thought that was less than some shakes and less than most of the Protein Bars. It has been the only "shake" I can tolerate.

Hope this helps.

I hated all Protein Drinks as well, especially the Isopure, which we have nicknamed isopuke, lol. My patient coordinator told me about her favorite and she lost over 150 lbs and has tried many, many different drinks. The name is whey Gourmet. The only problem with it is that you can only order it online... cant find it in stores. You can find it at a1nutrition.com or just google it to find the best price. It costs between $26 - 31.00, plus shipping, but it is worth it and it is a large container. The one I got, which was her favorite too, was Smooth chocolate Peanut Butter. It really does taste just like a Reses PB Cup. It is by far the best I have had and I have tried a lot of different kinds, including the Muslce Milk light. Believe me this is WAY better. I still dont like to drink it everyday, but when I do, it is great now, instead of avoiding it all the time.

Thanks, all, for the input. I have been trying different ones--ordered some samples online and made a trip or two to GNC. I am confident that I will find what works for me.

I really love my Twin Labs 100% Whey Protein Fuel. It has 50 grams of Protein in it in a 12 oz shake when mixed with Water. I mix mine with fat free skim milk. The chocolate tastes like cold hot chocolate and the vanilla like a milkshake. I dont think its gritty at all and there is none of the horrid aspiriny after taste... I've tried the Walmart one and also Muscle Milk light pre-made: hated the after taste big time...

My neighbor tried it tonight as she needs to gain weight :) and she even liked it... and she hates them all also

My fave way to make it is with 1 1/2 cups of milk, full scoop of powder and 4-5 frozen strawberries.

I can't stand any of the Protein Shakes I have tried. I've wasted all kinds of money on them. Muscle Milk Light made me gag like the rest of them. Isopure is bad. Beneprotein, ick. EAS and even Slimfast, all undrinkable. What I found was that I have really just relied on Instant Breakfast. I like it and actually drink it, so that's better than wasting money on stuff I won't touch. They have to make the Protein Powder so sweet flavored, it's just as bad. I can eat soft meat now, so it's not as bad.

Hey there I found that the GNC brand of 100% Whey Protein is the best I ever tasted. It is powder form and mixes really well with skim milk, with Water not so good but milk is good. It comes in many flavors too and the choc, banana cream are two of the best. Try them you will be surprised.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
