It's an unfortunate means to an end my dear.

I had some experience with several pre made shakes over the years for whichever diet I was doing. Right now I'm liking the Muscle Milk Light chocolate (not the 100 cal one, didn't care for them). The light ones are 8carbs and 160 cal 20 protien. I'm also using Atkins shakes though they all taste the same to me. The ones I've tried all seem to have the same basic taste, though the muscle milk is different for me.

I've also used a powder from Walmart (I think it's advanced nutrition? in chocolate) that isn't so bad. I've mixed it in with coffee and skim milk as well as Water to minimize calories.

I've read other people talk about Isopure from GNC. I think I may go check that out tonight in order to shake up my shakes after tomorrow.

Good luck! I guess the shakes are like beer, an aquired taste? :tongue_smilie:

hi

like you i hate the shakes but i have been using Max Protein from GNC. it's light and is not hard to get down, no after taste either.

118 cals, 2 fat, 3 carbs, 22 Protein per serving

they have choc, van, straw, cook & cream- i've only tried choc

if you go to GNC they will give you a sample before you buy....try to find one you like

good luck:thumbup:

Maybe the band isn't for you? From reading your other posts you've really changed your mind a lot about it, there's nothing wrong with that. It isn't for everyone. Wish there WAS something that worked for all of us but there isn't.

The preop diet is hard, the post op to me was even more so because I already HAD the band (no carrot to motivate me!) but post op is vital too, or you can have a slip. The band is work; preop and post op are maybe the most severe but it's just a tool.

I don't mean to be snooty either; I'm just a little worried about you because this seems to have been a pretty emotional decision (which is great!) but there's a lot of nuts and bolts things about the band that need to be considered too.

I just started my pre-op diet of Optifast with no food also and I'm struggling already too. Like my hubby and my friends said - they couldn't do it and they have no issues with food. Its very difficult as we knew it would be. No one that needed WLS is perfect in the food department or we would have done it on our own!

Please keep reminding yourself (and me) that its necessary and we can do it!!! :tongue_smilie:

I saw a strawberry kiwi shake yesterday that actually looked almost tempting... almost.

Maybe you can do some experimenting with shake and crystal light to see if you can come up with a wonder shake?

I love strawberry, but the only strawberry shake I tried was NASTY! When you find one you like, it's not so bad. I experimented before I actually had to be on them to find ones I like. I guess that's too late for you. Carnation Instant Breakfast (no added sugar) isn't bad. Maybe you would like that.

hi. i was noticing that everyone started their pre-op diet at least 2 weeks or more before their surgery date... did your drs tell you when to start it or let you know exactly when? im really nervous i expected my dr to let me know when i should start my pre-op diet. and today is now 10 days before my surgery.. was i suppost to start it on my own? or am i just freaking out too much? lol. my pre-op appointment with him is today. so im assuming today i start it? ahhh somebody give me some advice :)

the strawberry-kiwi shake is by NECTOR! it is sooooo good! When I get tired of that I do half of that and half chocolate from something else! Tastes like chocolate covered strawberries! You can do this! Everyone thinks this sucks, but it's for your liver before the surgery!

10 days is usually when you start, I started my at 14 days before because I knew I would keep putting off the inevitable!

i'm tolerating the shakes more now. I added one frozen strawberry its more tolerable. I know i shouldn't but can 1 strawberry will cause something horrible? i know i'll lose weight.

The only thing i'm allowed is the Bariatric Advantage Protein poweder shake. it has 0 fat. 140 cals. blah.. but oh well its a means to an end!

good luck all !!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
