Insulin and Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody! :) I had Realize Band on 9/15/08 and have only lost 37 lbs. My doc says taking insulin slows down weight loss. :) I am really frustrated and don't know what to do. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions appreciated.:o

My doctor took me off insulin just before my surgery and I have not gone back on it. I did lose well before being taken off insulin, I just ate it back on! I am now 55 pounds lost and my sugar in the morning is down to 124, still a little high but coming down with just pills and he has cut those down too. Good luck!

Maybe have an appt with your endocrinologist to see how your blood work is, and if your insulin can be reduced some? Otherwise, it's harder, but not impossible obviously as you've lost 37. Hang in there!

Greeting from Idaho!

I was banded 7/30/09. Prior to the pre-op diet I was on an insulin pump at a basilar rate of 3.9 U/hr and my sensitivity to insulin was 1 Unit would lower my BG ONLY 6 mg%.

After the pre-op diet, I was down to 1 U/hr basal and 1 U would lower my BG about 12 mg%. Now after the clear liquid week, my basal rate is 0.6 U/hr and sensitivity is 1 U = decrease 18 mg%.

In other words, my insulin resistance is way down and I really hope that the day comes (soon?) that I can gift the pump to someone that can use it.

Diabetes has improved with only a 10% BW reduction. Hope that HTN will improve eventually.

Best wishes on your battle with your person dragon. Mine is curled in the corner waiting to win again when my willpower weakens. Hope the battle can wait the 3 months that my surgeon wants to wait before the first fill. (I have a 14 cc band and it had 3 cc's in it to start.)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
