Thinking about Blossom

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking about Carolyn (Blossom) a lot these last few days. I'm not sure why? So I went and was reading some of her threads and posts. She has been gone for 6 months now and her Birthday would have been next Wednesday the 21st. Maybe she was thinking about LBT in Heaven, and that's why I was thinking about her.

How did the roses grow this summer that were planted in her name?

She was such a sweet lady! I didn't know her well but I really miss her!

I think of her from time to time too. My poor rose bush that I got for her memory is probably so root bound that it isn't even funny.

But it's funny that I never got a chance to plant it this summer, and now we're moving into our house. (So I don't have to dig it right back up and re-plant.) I have purposely avoided planting it this last month because I knew we'd be moving soon.

As soon as we get into our new home that'll be one of my first priorities. I'll have to cover it for the harsh winter that'll ensue, but once spring comes back around I'm sure it'll perk right back up.

Its funny you mentioned Blossom, I was just reading a post she started last year, I have been thinking of her, today while my husband was mowing the lawn he cut some of the roses off the rose bush I planted in her name , they are tiny liitleroses in a deep gold color. Beautiful, they are in a vase on my kitchen table. I miss Blossom too, t hanks for posting this Terri..we need to keep her memory alive ..she was such a kind hearted woman. Maybe she was thinking of LBT in heaven

I sent Philip, her dh, two Rose of Sharon plants to be planted near the home they were building. Hopefully they have "blossomed". He said he had just the spot picked out.

I think of him often too and how much he must miss her, she was such a sweetie.

I still keep my Blossom-y wreath avatar in her memory. It's kind of hard to give up. I can't believe it's been 6 months. I never met her in person, but what a devastating blow for those of us at LBT who had the pleasure of her company here. I still think of dear Phillip and wonder how he is doing. Has he started construction on the house? How's he holding up? So sad. Thanks for starting this thread. I miss her being here.

I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS THREAD!!!!

I am telling the -honest to God- truth here...

lastnight I was leaving my parents home, and BLOSSOM/Carolyn crossed my mind. I guess I was thinking of freak accidents, and I would say that her death was certainly one. HOW IRONIC that I see this thread today.

I remember that she was going to meet us in Galveston for the Galveston Bash in November of last year, so I *almost* met her in person.

She was a sweetie!

I Water Carolyn, the weeping cherry tree I planted, everyother day. She looks so good and healthy with lots of leaves. All the other trees her type in the neighborhood have lost there leaves but not her.

We've had so much construction at our house putting in sewer and re-paving the driveway. Tractors are everywhere. You can imagine my thoughts.

I had not seen this thread until today, but I too have been thinking of her lately--She was banded the same day I was so we shared that special bond. Last week, I too started making preparations to build my dream home, when I went on my property and saw the first of the clearings --My dear Blossom came to mind. Thank you for this post.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
