So, I'm almost 5 weeks out from my banding, and everything has been really good, until yesterday. I went to my support group last night, returned home at about 8:30 pm. Went to take my shirt off, reached down and felt something wet. Looked and saw that I had blood all over my stomach under one of my incisions. The one incision on my far left under my breasts was dark purple and looked like it had a blister. So I immediately panicked, went to the urgent care, and found that I have a "stitch/suture abscess". So now I'm on antibiotics for 10 days. I was so mad. I was having a bad day yesterday as it was, and this was just the icing on the cake. (Sorry I mentioned cake, lol). It's just so weird because until this point, my sutures had been healing fine. The doctor said she thought it was irritated by my bra which makes sense. I just want to focus on getting healthy and this was just a total distraction.

Anyone else having problems with their incisions?

Thanks for letting me vent everyone! I try to talk to my family/boyfriend/friends about it but feel they can't really understand what I'm dealing with. So thanks again for listening!:smile2:

You're probably wearing an underwire bra. You should switch to a sports bra. The fabric is softer and there's no wire. I wore them instead of my regular bras for about 8 weeks. Not as much support but better for my incision.

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually not wearing an underwire. I'm wearing a soft cup bra. I always do wear an underwire normally, but since surgery I've only worn an underwire once. I just have huge boobs and they aren't the perkiest ones going so it rubs up against my incision sometimes when I sit. But I have to keep it covered now for another week so hopefully it won't get anymore irritated.

Mine are still kind of scabbed, and I have some of the internal stitches popping out so when I fold my arms below my boobs, I feel it poking through my shirt. My BIGGEST prob. has been wearing certain bras. My port is right under my right boob like right besides the sternum, so If I slouch or wear the wrong bra I am in AGONY for the whole day. I hope you feel better soon.

I can relate. all of my incisions were healing fine until the other day. After wearing a bra all day I went to take a shower and realized that the incision in the middle under my breast was sore. I looked at it it looked irritated and mybe small puss bubble. so the last couple days in the morning I shower put on zinc oxcide and a bandade over it to protect it and at night let it have air. and now it looks fine again and back to healing!!!

Ugh, just got a call from the ER doc that saw me the other day, turns out I have 2 strains of staph infection. Great. So I'm still on antibiotics. Seeing my surgeon Monday for the first fill and he will take a look at my incisions again then. They seem to be healing fine, knock wood. But it just stinks to go through this! Sorry.....frustrated!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
