Hi my BMI is 61.5, I am 5 foot tall and weigh 315 pounds I am going to my family Doc on tue to inform him of the fact that I want to have the lap band. My Ins. will pay if it is medically necessary. Is it different for bigger BMI's? Now I am nervouse. I want to have children in the future and that is why I choose LB over GB. I like that it is flexible and can be loosened so my baby gets what s/he will need when my belly is growing from something other then ice cream and cheese burgers.

I just confirmed today that my BMI is 58.5. This also the first day of my liquid diet. I haven't been told to loose any additional weight prior to surgery.

I think I win the BMI so far (LOL it's nice to be #1 at something) since mine started out at 67.4. I had to diet preop to shrink my liver for a longer period than others, but did not have a "goal" or set amt. of weight I had to lose preop. My doc never tried to steer me to RNY Bypass (he does both surgeries) and is encouraging and wonderful. I just have more to lose than many other bandsters but hey, that was true before I got the band, too. I love my band.

i assume i will have to do medifast or Optifast, which im okay with. ive done that before and i bet i will lose a fair bit of weight doing it too....

so, how is everyone doing these days?

I also am just starting the process of getting banded. I am 5'5" and weigh 325, which puts my BMI at 54.1. I attended Dr. Machado's informational session 1/4/10 and am waiting for a return call from her office to schedule my consultation.

I also had a High BMI. I am losing slow. But that is by choice. I dont deal well with being too restricted on my choices. So my Dr is happy and I am happy I am losing...just slowly.

I only had to do the 2 week Pre op diet...it was tough but I just kept looking forward...it is not forever. Once I was banded I had lots of things to choose from. I just could not eat much of anything. But I still could taste everything. lol

I started w/a BMI of 63.5. I am 5'3" and 2 wks before my surgery I was 358.5 lbs. I was banded on May 19th. Since the beginning of May when I started the pre-op liquid diet I have lost 70 lbs.

When I got married and got pregnant (same week), I had a BMI of about 60 (5'8" & ~400lbs). Pregnancy and breast feeding got me down to a BMI of about 57. I was 375 when I when in to my first consultation. The doctor wanted me to "have my weight trending downward" before I had surgery and I lost at least 30lbs by dieting for 6 weeks before hand. So I guess I was down to a BMI of 52 by surgery. So my daughter did the first 30 lbs and I did the next 30 pounds.

I'm only 5 weeks out and haven't had a fill yet, but the surgery went well, I had very little fat in liver and abdominal cavity (doc said I was skinny on the inside). I healed really fast and I think that made keeping to the post-op diet harder (felt normal but still supposed to be on liquid diet). I've lost 10-15lbs in the past 5 weeks, but I'm hoping my fill next week will make it easier to eat less, because I'm hungry a lot right now.

its good to see high BMI people doing well and losing. i finally got weighed and i am 454 and 5'10...so according to my handy dandy wheel, i am around 65 BMI. i met with the surgeon today and he says because im a "volume eater" and not someone with a sweet tooth or something of that nature, that the band may still work well for me. he told me about another patient who had the band and only lost like 3 pounds over the course of 6 months because she keeps eating stuff thats not good for her but slides right through the band (i.e. milkshakes)

but anywho...thanks for the updates!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
