Losing without exercise????

Recommended Posts

obvisiously, i havent been banded ..yet (hopefully soon).. but according to my nutritionist and some on here, if you dont start an exercise routine as soon as your able, you're more likely to get flabby skin. i know most get it anyways, but with exercise it reduces the amount and adds muscle mass which aids in the apperance as well. the longer you put it off, the greater the chance you'll regret it later..

again....what ive been told.not personal experience. you sound alot like me and i know i want to look toned as well as skinny. i would hate to be skinny and still have to cover up because im insecure of my loose skin.

good luck hun!

OoooOOooooOOO Good point!

I was already thinking of ways to get out of my first day of exercise scheduled for next Monday! Looks like I'll keep that appointment! :blushing:

I am almost at 1 year banded now and I need to workout to keep up my weight lose. I'm not sure if I needed to workout that much in the begining but I do think that working was the reason my weight lose happen so quickly. Now if I dont workout the weight just doesnt come off as fast or at all. Now that I'm so much smaller than I was a year ago it takes more movement to burn cals. because I am so much smaller. Plus I find that I am in a better mood when I workout, I feel less stressed out, I sleep better and I dont have as much free time to just sit around and snack when I am on the move all the time. So I guess the exersice is more than just something that helps me lose weight but something that makes me happier and relaxed in life.

The "calories in/calories out" theory is a rough topic for me. I am one of those who does not lose from working out alone. I have to work out strenuously and lower my calories to below 1200/day to lose. Even then, I plateau a lot. I have been that way since my mid 20s. I enjoy working out, and I have since high school. When I went through the law enforcement academy, I prepared to qualify by running three miles per day, for 3-5 days per week. I alternated with lifting when I could because there is also a strength component to qualifying. I did qualify, and in fact, I broke the institutional record for women's push-ups:thumbup:. You know what, though? After working like that for 9 mos, I lost just three pounds. I made it all the way down to 187 lbs. whoo. hoo.

It drives me crazy because my best friend can walk around her block and lose three pounds. She has always treated me like I just wasn't working as hard as she was. It's really damaging to hear people say crap like that when you know you are doing even more than they are. It is annoying to know that they can just quit downing Kripsy Kremes and lose weight, and you can live on chickpeas and sodawater and not. It's maddening when I know how she eats and how little she does to stay in shape...when I recall all of those times she did NOT meet me at the gym. I can't even talk to her about her attitude bc she will just act like I am making excuses. It has damaged our friendship in a way, but I try to remember that she thinks that way because it does work that way for her.

If I'm not careful, I begin to feel like "why try?" I know that will not result in wl for me, and I have to get passed that and stay passed that if I am going to lose. I hope the band is going to help me stick to the dietary part better, and I feel like I have been on top of it since I was banded. It does seem easier, and since that is the part that I struggled with before, I am hopeful.

Maestrita you are singing my song girl! I can work out twice as hard with no results...naturally i gain muscle very easy so I may loose an inch here or there, but weight wise...nada...I can't stand it. I'm 4 weeks post op and can't wait to hit the gym again (DR. wants to wait to see me for my first fill before oking it),but I'm hoping the the massive restriction of what I was eating before to now with some good exercise/light weights I can get the weight off this time!

Good morning mom2; oh no!!!! I am totally for the simple fact that exercising was the main factor in me losing the weight. My doctor, bless his heart stresses that to me all of the time. Plus, why wouldn't you want to work it!!!

Banded on February 10, 2009....down 68 pounds as of today. I have more energy, so I definitely do more stuff but the only true addition of exercise is that I started doing my own yard work again instead of paying somebody. I have more than 3/4 of an acre for a yard so there's plenty to do. But I don't go to a gym ever, at all. I take a walk sometimes and have THOUGHT about starting a consistent walking program but so far, no.....

Thanks Alaskagirl, It helps to know I am not the only one. It is hard to talk about because people who don't experience this think that you just aren't dedicated. It can be a slap in the face when trying so hard.

I really appreciate all of your responses - its everything I need to hear. I am so excited to get the band. I'm praying for the best and I know I have to put my all into it. I've heard stories of people that just think the band is magic and then they fail. I don't want to be lazy with the band - being lazy has gotten me to where I am today!

Triplets!!!!!!! Wow! Exercise should be no problem for you! On the other hand, finding time to sit down to eat might be. Good luck to you and congratulations!

LOL! I have to ask you a question...how did you chose the allergen band? That's the one I chose since its been around the longest and the port is easier to access for my doc.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
