Just needing a little reassurance...

Recommended Posts

Hello! I was banded on June 8. So far (knock on wood), I have felt absolutely wonderful since the evening of my surgery. The only way I know that I've had my surgery are my "bullet holes," some wild burping (no pain, just loud and loooong), and my post op diet. I went out today and bought a PowerSpin bike and some resistance bands to start working out with. I have been very careful to take small bites and chew, chew, chew. I've not had any bouts of vomitting, PBing, or sliming.

I know I'm sounding like I'm bragging here, but I'm sooo paranoid that I could still be doing something to stretch my pouch and/or cause my band to slip. I do NOT want to go in for my 1st fill (July 7) and have the fluoroscope show that something is wrong!

sounds like you are doing just fine....i didnt ever experience the uncomfotable feeling of things getting "stuck" etc. until after my first fill.

i think that since you havent had any fills yet things still pass pretty easily if you follow the post op diet they gave you for sure!

Relax! You are sounding like you are doing everything the right way, so just continue to do it that way. If you keep worrying the only thing you are going to do is hinder your progress, so relax, and enjoy the start of your happier and healthier life!

Just a word of caution from someone who had a band and now doesnt. dont get too much fill too fast. I didnt but a person could. It seemed like there was a delayed reaction in the fills and I found out that my stomach would swell. one day I could eat a certain thing and the next day the same thing wouldnt go down. it was very hard to regulate mine. i just had it out after 3 years as well as my daughter. I have a sleave now and my daughter doesnt want any more to do with it. We both had errosion. Good luck to you just do things very slowly no matter how long you have it and if your stomach swells as mine did to start the errosion keep it in mind that you could eat one thing one day and it will be a big problem the next day.

You are doing great! Try to relax. Remember that the vast majority of people do not have any complications w/the band. It may seem like a lot of people do when you read this forum, but that's because people are more likely to seek out a forum like this when they are having a problem. Its actually very rare to have any complications w/the band, especially w/the newer larger bands and because it is common practice to sew the band in place now. Hang in there!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
