Shrinking Violets Part 4

Recommended Posts

Made a good meatball Soup last night, made enough for me to take to work all week.

In large saucepan bring 4c beef broth, 1 can stewed tomatoes (undrained), 1 tsp chili powder, 1/2tsp of cumin (I left out cause I don't have any), 1/2 tbsp garlic powder, 1 chopped onion.. to a boil then reduce and simmer for 15-20m. Then add can of black Beans (drained), frozen meatballs (however many you want), and 1/2c uncooked instant rice(I used brown). Bring back to boil, then cover and simmer for an hour.

I put a chunk of fresh mozzerella in the middle when serving. Yum yum.

laura - that sounds yum! i've never tried those frozen meatballs before. do they taste frozeny?

tracy - do your blisters hurt? do you have any idea how you get them? that sucks to have them come back again and again...

We are getting new baseboards installed at the house so my house is topsy turvy right now... Hate that. My garage is such a mess and the guys need to work in there so we are gonna go home tonight and clean it out. I have so much stuff in there that I keep holding for a garage sale in the future but it's so darn hot that I can't see myself doing anything outside in the next few months. I think I'm going to donate everything to the church yard sale... I just want everything GONE.

I got into a huge fight with my middle sister yesterday. Ugh, I'm still so sore about it. I'm so freaking sensitive and I hate that about myself...

Hurt? Not really...itchy mainly and not to mention gross looking. They are just like fever blisters/cold sores. But the herpes meds do not work so I do not know what it is. I will be glad to get to the dermatologist!

So they're not just cold sores??

Haydee- Oh jeez, frozen meatballs are the bomb. The big red bag that has like 100 in em. That's a staple in my house, even if you just pop 5 in the microwave they taste fantastic. Then I bookmarked a website of 1001 ways to make frozen meatballs, and I try something new every once in a while. So no, not frozeny tasting whatsoever.. very flavorful.

Long story short, someone remembered the name of the place today:Llewellyn's

So they're not just cold sores??

That is what they seem to be but what worries my pcp is that the coldsore/herpes meds do not work..and I have tried 3 diff kinds. That is why he told me that if the last round of meds didn't work I need to go to a dermatologist.

TRACYK YOU DO NOT SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Jane, I am just way down on myself. :bored:

I went to buy fancy cold sore medicine one day and asked the Pharmacist if I can use it while pregnant, and he said.. don't waste money on the expensive stuff, just put Neosporin on a q-tip and dab it.

So that's what I did, and it worked!

Hey Girls, I dont think I posted this morning! Up at 4.30, sleep is all messy still. Sus had an appt so we went to Breaky at Billys (had that dish that Haydee and I split...still left 1/2 on the plate). Then to the appt., then to the grocery store. My friend is having knee surgery tomorrow...and I was going to make her a dish or something for her fam, this is BA...has twin 8 yr olds. Anyway...too hot and grumpy...so decided to make her the sopapilla cheesecake instead. I sent out emergency text to Laura, then called Haydee, then called Michelle. Terry was next, working down the list. Michelle saved me. Sus said, Oh is that Michelle? Tell her your being a grumpy bitch! HAHA...I totally was, but bottom line is...she doesnt go to the store w/ me anymore! She said, "I am an honorary Violet...I can call you out!" HAHA...now she feels bad, but between us, she doesn't have to...I was being a bitch. Did I mention it is 114 today w/ humidity. She says, 'don't buy this or that...too expensive!" She is still my best and fav person!

Thinking about you Judy and Kat!

Haydee...stay strong and forgive quickly!

Laura...just got your text...I didn't want to call if the man child was sleeping.< /span>

Tracy...you don't suck. Sorry about your nose things...a derm doc can give you some "heal it up quickly cream" and you'll be good as new!

How are things Terry? Jen? Jane? Susie? Anyone else I forgot!

xooxox

Yeah, I have tried all the home remedies too. Neosporin, camphor, fingernail polish remover, hand sanitizer, ice packs, and the one that has worked BEST so far is calamine lotion. Just when it is gone, within a day or 2 max, they are back...in the same place or a different place...but not ON my mouth thank God. It is the pitts!

Pamela-who is your fav or non fav on BB so far? My NON is Chima...ugh!

That's why my phone is on quiet. It vibrates if I'm getting a call, but if I get a text it is silent, so I never know. Just call next time

It was back to work for me today----was ok. Busy as all get out.

Schedule is packed tight all week long, it is crazy! Not sure what the reason is, it is too early for the last minute "back to school" calls for the kids the letters were sent out for when school let out---that they needed eye exams.....those parents wait til the week school starts I am told!!!

We had one family in today, and the youngest son was 10----and he smelled sooo bad, it was awful, it was like an adult poopy diaper. He smelled like poop----he looked clean, his hair was long, really long--middle of the back long, and shiny his nails were clean, but he reeked. Made me sad for him.

Some threads here on LBT where they trash talk other WLS's go on about how DS patients smell that way----made me wonder if there was a physical reason this child smelled, and made me feel bad for him, he is bound to get comments from other kids if this is his norm. Was strange.

My friend who died, his family had him cremated, and are not holding services. He only had a sister and a brother left living. He had lost his parents and a brother all in the last 5 years. The remaining siblings, opted not to have services.....it feels so unfinished. I think it is because I knew the brother very well (as in dated) and I don't think he changed much, so has no morals to this day! And the sister, is rather anti social. I guess I feel bad that there is not prayers being said over his remains. I mean I prayed for him, and I pray his son is going to be ok----but it feels empty. He deserved better, he was a good man.

Made a pot of green chile stew yesterday, and it got hotter as it sat, and now my pouch is steaming. I am not sick feeling like PB'ing---and I almost wish I was, I wish it would move----up or down, but this sitting is not working for me!

Tracy, hope they figure out your sores soon. Have they checked to see if it is impatago? That is pretty hard to clear up I understand, and the area you say it is, is pretty common for it. One of my kids (as in daycare) used to deal with it a lot---and it was recurring like you are talking about. I cannot remember if it was a staph infection or a strep infection of the upper skin layers----but it is contagious, and yours apparantly has not been given to your family.....hope it goes away soon. It has to wear on you emotionally. Deal with one thing at a time, get rid of it, and then get busy with the weight. It will all fall into place....you just gotta take it a step at a time. Feel free to flip me off or go pbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbt at me now for spouting feel good words!!

Jane......I have sinned. I cut my own hair!!! OMG I did!!! Not a lot just inches off the bottom, and kind of re-layered it. I called and Lori just had surgery and was going tobe out for another 2 weeks, and I could not stand the scraggly ends!!! I sure wish you were closer!

Pamela----if I shop at our local Safeway I am a bitch from the minute I enter the store til I drive away!! The store always smells of fresh baked bread, or chocolate cake, or fried chicken.....something yummy. And I do my best to ignore it, and it makes me mad!!! BUT if I go into the Albertsons it smells bad!!! LOL, it really does, the seafood smell is yucky! But it keeps me ready to get out of the store, and does not entice me with yummy smells!! Sounds wierd, but it is true!

One of Rick's employees is in the hospital so we went by there tonight. He has a pinched nerve and it has him in traction.

Speaking of Michelle, have you ever had sciatic pain? It goes through my hip into my butt cheek, down my leg, all the way to my foot. Keeps my leg feeling kind of numb, yet hypersensitive at the same time. I do stretches EVERY day that I learned in PT for the Sciatic pain. It is serious, we refer to it as my psychotic nerve rather than the sciatic nerve---because I get psycho when it hurts! I have a herniated disc at the L4 L5 (Lumbar) level --S1 (Sciatic 1). Hope it gets better.

Hey everyone else, gotta hit the shower. See ya tomorrow! ((((hugs))))

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
