Please Give me Advice!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on April 14 and had my first fill on May 16. It seems like every time I eat anything except for certain few things I will PB or simply throw up. I can't eat many things at all. I don't have any problem with any slider foods but other things I do. I can eat refried Beans and hard shell tacos fine. It seems anytime I prepare a meal at home,I will get sick. Please tell me what this could be coming from? I feel fine but am scared to try anything. I even threw up when I ate Special K / Protein Cereal with milk. I can eat yogurt, pudding or things like crackers fine. Any advice on what to do? I didn't know if I should call the surgeon. I am going on a vacation in a week and am worried about what I should do.

maybe it's your cooking?? ok, bad joke...

before you go on a vacation, that I'm sure you have spent $$ on and don't want ruined, i would call your dr. and have your fill analyzed. maybe there is just a little to much...

i haven't had a fill yet but my brother has the band too and they have over filled and had to take a little out.

whenever in doubt, call your dr. that's what he is there for.

Sounds like you are a hair too full OR you need a fews days of liquids to let everything settle down. You may have a bit of swelling going on due to the PBing. Liquids for a few days may help with that.

I too had the same problem after my first fill and I too thought I may have had to much fluid... that I was eating to fast or maybe not chewing properly. I got to the point I was either "sliming" and or throwing up every time I had something to eat. Ive since had my second fill and havent had a episode of either. Im not sure why and to be honest was dreading having any more Fluid put in. My advice would be to ask your doctor... It maybe you havent had enough restriction and instead of the food sitting ontop of the band in the pouch, that maybe it is getting stuck in the band... As it was with me.

That only happens to me when I eat too fast/don't chew well/and-or eat too much.

I lived like that for 7 months. When banded we have to make choices either to do it or not...as in reduce the amount of food. (some people just can't do it)

But when quantity isn't the issue...it's WHAT you can or can't eat...that's something my lapband book doesn't even talk about. ( I have the one from Inamed-the owner's manual). I could eat things that were thin/hard/cruchy....but applesauce/pudding/etc would come back up.

Come to find out I was too restricted. I had the Fluid removed 2-3 weeks ago and have gained 12 pounds....am going for a fill this week.

Just stay close with your doctor as you may can work with the restriction you do have and get some major weightloss. But don't do it at the expense of your health. A slight unfill may be in order. Your doctor can help you out on this one.

Trish, how much fill do you have? It sounds like you are too tight. Did it just start happening recently or even closer to when you just got your fill? You can get tighter. And, I've had a rough week and a half because I caught a head cold and have had so much thick mucus draining into my throat and then to my stomach that it was partially blocking the stoma. Heck, masked potatoes got stuck and PB'd one night last week. I felt like I'd hit bottom or something. Mashed potatoes??!! Anyway, I feel like I can relate right now. Talk to your doc. Sometimes, even a slight unfill, like .2cc can make a ton of difference.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
