It looks like most bandsters that choose to have plastic surgery opt to have more than 1 procedure done during surgery. (Full lower body, Tummy Tuck and breast, medial thigh and arms, etc...) My poll is aimed at those who have had a tummy tuck with Lipo, or have spoken to a PS about this procedure alone.

I had an experience last week with a consult and was quite disturbed (not sure if that is the word I really want to use...) by the price I was given.

The quote was for an 'extended tummy tuck' (incision to go about 3 inches beyond my hipbones) with lipo for outter thighs and around my sides to include some of my back and butt.

I'm interested in what kind of prices you people were quoted for the same type of procedure....

Thanks in advance..

Patricia

Hi:

I had a Tummy Tuck with liposuction. I was fortunate that my insurance covered the cost of a panniculectomy and I only had to pay the difference to upgrade to tummy tuck. My out of pocket costs were almost $7,000.00, and I was told that my out of pocket costs were for the additional time for the surgeon, o.r., anesthesia. I stayed in the hospital overnight. I'm in Massachusetts where medical costs are very high.

Best wishes to you.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

I am having a TT and Lipo on 4 parts of my legs on Thursday. This is being done in conjunction with a hernia repair. My insurance is paying for the hernia surgery and my stay in the hospital. I am self-pay on the TT and lipo and the additional time (4 hours)needed for the operating room and anaestheisiologist. My hospital part to pay was $2400 and the PS's fee is $8750.

What were you quoted?

I was going to wait and see a few results before I posted the amount I was actually quoted...but it really doesn't make much difference....so...

Because the medical system here in Canada is so different from the US things like PS are done in private facilities and fully paid for by the patient. That said, I had contacted a very well-known facility in Vancouver, BC (by email) and asked some questions (how many surgeons they had, if any had worked with weight-loss patients, or worked with banded people, etc) and I enquired on the cost. The reply I got was that a TT starts at $6,200 and then is adjusted as per what the Dr thinks you need. So I made the consult appt knowing that I would need a little more work than normal, and I would need lipo... I thought that it would bump up the price by $2 or $3 or even $4,000.

Lets just say that I was more than a little surprised when the patient co-ordinator handed me the paperwork that read....$14,700 + tax !!!!! Well over $15 GRAND !!!! I mean really....$6200 for a TT and $8500 for the extra time (the surgeon said he could be done in 3.5 hours) and Lipo? ? I can tell you right now that I am ~NOT~ paying that much for a TT !!

I've thought about it since my appointment and I am going to email the Center on Monday and ask if they can give me a break-down on costs etc for the quote they gave me. I am also going to email the Dr privately (he works at this facility but also has his own practice) and explain that altho I would like to have him perform my surgery I won't be having it done there because of cost.

Anyhow...sorry for the babble !!!

Hi

I was banded in Mexico and decided to get a quote for PS there also.

For body lift, fat put back in my bum and breast implants was a total of $10,500.

Much better than the $20,000 in Calgary.

I still have to save though. So hopefully next year.

I talked to 2 PS in Mexico as well when I started looking into it. Both very reputable, I have researched both and would consider going for my surgery with either. However, I have no-one to travel with and feel that the smart thing to do would be to spend at ~least~ 2 weeks post-op down there so that all sutures, staples, drainage tubes etc were out and I was well on my way to healing. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with being down there that long on my own. Not to mention it's a long trip home....

The prices I got from both of them were for full lower body lifts and the prices were $5600 and $7200....all medical costs included and one covered hotel costs as well. After the consult in Vancouver I am back to contemplating Mexico as an option....

Hi

I also would be going alone and plan to stay 10-14 days but even with this extra cost it would be way cheaper and I wouldn't have to worry about doing too much etc.

I had an extended Tummy Tuck with anchor cut, also silione breast implants, and a small cresent lift. 8 hours of surgery, OR, and anstesthia, 1 night in hospital $17,000. No Lipo tho.

Just the tummy tuck alone would have been 10,000 with all fees listed above.

I paid 7500 for Lipo of the thighs and lower body lift in Mexico, I will be going back next year for implants and breast lift costing 4350. I will definately get all of my work done there. The cost is half what it's here and the care is better than here as well.

Dr.Tad Grenga works out of Chesapeake and Harbor Veiw in Suffolk. He's really good. I had a TT from him about 5 yrs ago(before Band) and he did a great job. He also works with operation smile.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
