When did you have your first fill?

Recommended Posts

Hello - I was banded on May 4th. My Dr. told me I could receive my first fill at 6 weeks, but now I have learned that he will be on vacation from June 15-July 1. Six weeks would be June 15.

so, I could ask him for a fill next week - say Wednesday, or I can wait until July. I haven't lost any weight in the last 10 days or so.... I am anxious to begin experiencing the benefits of the band!

I tried searching for threads about time of the first fill, but I coudnt find one....

Based on your experiences, what do you recommend?

thanks for your responses....

I got mine at 6 weeks. If your doc is aggressive with fills then wait, I'd say...(because you don't want to be too tight and him be out of town) but honestly odds of getting restriction w/first fill are slim.

I started losing at my SEVENTH. So if you are going to be more like me, then see if you can get going now!

(of course you don't know how you'll react, that's the kicker)

Ask your doc what he thinks.

I had surgery on May the 12th and my first one is scheduled for the 17th this month which is 5 weeks out I think. I agree with sleepy though, hardly anyone has restriction first fill so maybe you could ask if he could do it early?

I was banded on May 6th, and had my first fill yesterday, June 4th. I haven't had any problems, but to each his own.

Some docs will do a fill as early as four weeks. Mine said 6 weeks. Considering that he'll be out of town for quite a long time, ask if he would consider filling you a few days early (Tuesday or Wednesday). That way you'll have the rest of the week to know if you're gonna be ok or not. Hey, at worst, all he can say is no. But if he says yes, then you're that many weeks ahead!

Good luck!

Hi there

I was banded in April and supposed to receive my first fill a month after my operation. Due to some issues with them not being able to find the port I didnt have my first fill until yesterday 6 weeks after my operation. It was about time!

Hope that helps.

Craig

I had mine at 4 weeks out.

I would like to make a suggestion to you and anyone else who reads this. Get your fills on a Mon, Tues or Wed--that way if you have any problems, your doctor will be in the office the next day. Mine don't do fills on Thurs or Fri.

Go now, but make sure that there are at least 3-5 days that your doc will be available after and make a back-up plan with him in cas you tighten up while he's gone.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
