Okay first off a pound a day! Now that's what I am talking about! I weigh right now 250 and am 5-8 wow I would be beside myself to be so lucky to lose a pound a day once I get my band tightenend. With that said you losing a pound a day how is your hair? Have you noticed losing more than usual?

Christine

Although you didnt ask me (lol...)I will respond to this one too. I started losing my hair about 2.5 months after surgery. Suprised by this I was (I sound like yoda). I am still losing hair and I am now 4 months out. I started taking prenatals and really am keeping with my Multivitamins (I get plenty of protein). I asked my doc about it and he recommended a few other meds to help, but I already have a prob with facial hair and I dont want more of that!

My hairdresser swears she can tell when someone has had WLS. In fact, the first time I went she was touching my hair and asked me if I had had WLS. I said yes. She says the hair feels different, gets a little more dull, and of course falls out. But she also added she sees this a lot after any major surgery.

Hi, I had my surgery done the day after Easter 09. I feel frustrated and alone in this whole journey! So grateful that I found this site though. I have yet to have my first fill yet my first fill is schedule for June 9, 09. I don't understand the cc's that everyone is talking about. I also don't even know what I have in me how much the band can hold etc. I do know this though. Now that they swelling has completely gone away I am not getting that full feeling anymore and it's not good! I haven't so much lost weight as I have inches and why that is I don't get either. So my question to everyone is this. Can I tell the Dr. how much I want him to fill it or suggest it to him? I want to make it worth my time and lose some weight. One big accomplishment for though through this process is I have not had a diet coke since begining April I never thought I would be that strong minded to give it up but I have.

Totally normal, and it is frustrating! It appears as if you need two to three fills to hit the right spot to restrict your intake. I, like you, was impatient and wanting to tell the Dr. to "tie it up", but they move at their own pace. But feel good, your experience is like everyone else.

I am glad to hear that I will know it when I feel it. Part of me keeps thinking that maybe I am ignoring something. I have PB'd, but it's usually with the first bite of a meal, especially if I haven't eaten anything solid yet. I have a 10 cc band, and I'm somewhere around 8 or 9 cc's.

Thanks for the comments. I feel like maybe this will work after all once I get more restriction. I do worry that I'm going to go from no restriction to so tight I can't eat and there won't be anywhere to go in between.

At least I have managed to keep off what I lost. I've lost 27 pounds, whcih occured from July-Dec, nothing since then. Half came off after the three week post-op liquid diet. I swear, I think the only reason I've lost anything is becuase of the post-op diet and the liquid diet each time I have a fill. My surgeon is stricter than most, and we have to be on 2 days clear, 2 days full liquids, and 2 days of soft food after every fill!

Someone asked about insurance. I have BCBS of FL. I get charged an office visit copay and % a hospital bill that the hospital bills. (I think 20%) What a rip off! The hospital gets a cut every time, I guess because Mr. Doctor's office is on the premesis of the hospital. They bill it as a procedure, rather than an office visit.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

I finally have some restriction! I finally feel full! It’s been almost a year, and this is the first time. I can still eat more than I feel like I should with the band, but it’s actually a normal size portion, so I’m happy with that. I was worried that I would never feel full, that I’d just feel discomfort or pain.

I also feel vindicated because now that I am eating enough to feel full and satisfied, I am not eating junk or binging. I think my surgeon and his staff felt like I was sabotaging myself. I kept trying to explain that I am not getting the fullness sensation and that makes it difficult to stick to a diet. I knew that if I felt satisfied, I’d be able to tackle the other eating issues. My blood sugar is more stable, which reduces my cravings.

I finally feel like this band is doing what it was designed to do!

Yeah! I'm happy for you!! I go in tomorrow to get more restriction, about five months ago the doctor refused to fill me anymore and I am starting to gain weight. I got down to about 176 lbs, now I'm inching upward again.

I think I'm only at 4cc.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
