Hi everyone - I have been lurking around this site for several months and decided to join. I had lap band surgery on Nov. 11, 2008. As of today I have lost 91 lbs. I know that my weight loss is a little above normal but I started out weighing 315 lbs. and now weigh 224. I still have a ways to go and enjoy all the encourgement I have seen on this board.

Have a great day!

Karen

Hi Karen,

I live in TN too. I just had my lap band last month (April 21st). You did a fantastic job on your weightloss. Who did your surgery? Dr. Spaw did mine.

You are my inspiration :-)

Its great to hear about significant losses such as yours. Its inspiring. I am having surgery on 6/2 and love to hear positive results. I am starting to get a little nervous reading some of the negativity.

Can you give us some insight into what you think has helped you in acheiving such great results?

Hi Alisa,

I live in Knoxville and Dr. Boyce did my surgery. How are you doing with your band? What phase are you doing now? Good luck!!!

Good luck on your surgery. I can remember scouring the messages boards looking for positive information on the lap band. I was sure that this was the surgery I wanted but was still scared because there was alot of negative things posted on the boards.

My greatest strength through my surgery and now weight loss has been my faith. I am a firm believer in prayer and feel that the Lord has made all this possible.

I have been a failure at diets for 30 years and am always afraid that I could revert back to those old ways. So I try to follow the lap band rules. Eat the right foods, Chew chew and chew, only eat off a dessert plate with the right amount of foods on it and I exercise everyday for at least 30 minutes.

Good Luck!!!

The very best of luck to you. Obviously, the lap band was a great choice for you. You are truly ahead of the curve in terms of weight loss! It has to feel absolutely great!

I too looked to the forum for quite awhile before I had the band put in. I guess I always came back to - what is it that makes people come to a forum? For me, it is seeing the issues that can arise and the little tidbits of information I pick up, understanding full well that every person's journey with the band is different. For many, it is support, guidance, online friendship and answers to the issues that may come up along the way. I keep in mind that not all "bandsters" are on forums and that many simply go by the advice of their physician. So do we get an accurate idea of how the band will really work for each of us from this forum? Maybe, maybe not. But it does really help to know there are others out there that have the same problems and concerns that we do.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
