How long for the compression garment?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks. I have a question for those who have had their tummies tucked. How long did you have to wear a compression binder? Mine's been 24/7 so far and just wondering how long this goes on. Do they have you wean off of it? It's a pain in the neck, but it's also almost a comfort because it keeps things held so tightly. I'll be following up with doctor tomorrow, just thought I'd ask about it ahead of time so that I know what to expect.

Thanks.

I love my band!

Sue

hey sue,

believe it or not my doctor told me yesterday i could switch to Spanx. i thought i'd have these things on for life.

they do help me with support so i will leave them on for another 2 weeks then switch to spanx. you are right...they help with the "hourglass" shape.

i now know what it is like to be in a straight jacket ha!

My ps has you wear the binder 24/7 for 2-3 weeks and then switch over to Spanx until you hit the 3 month mark. The Spanx is definitely more comfortable, but the binder cuts down on the swelling for me. I have been switching back and forth. I do wear the Spanx at night because it makes sleeping so much better.

I wore mine everyday for four months. I had a seroma which is a build up of Fluid into the now empty space. I hated it, but boy is it worth it.

I was allowed to wear Spanx that were a few sizes too small at work and for events after my 2 months which was a relief. It got to the point that I got accustomed to wearing it.

I had a panniculectomy on 4-13-09. I'm still wearing mine 2 months later. It feels better with it on and makes me look much better too. I still have the extra fat and skin above my pannus scar - so it is holds all of that in! I'll have to wean off of it! HA

Well I am only 4 days out so still have the binder on but this thing has an inch and half foam between my belly and the elastic. Will that foam stay on the whole time I think it makes me look 20 pounds heavier. I have a dinner that I am invited to in 2 weeks and I hope I don't have to have this thing on for that. If the foam wasnt under the elastic I think I would be fine. So tell me do they get rid of the foam part first????

Hi:

Mine doesn't have any foam on it. My doctor said that if I was going to buy an extra one, just to make sure it has "bones" in it so that it doesn't roll up or down. I bought one at JC Penney online that did the trick and it doesn't have any foam. In fact, it's flattering.

I'm supposed to keep wearing my compression garment except for bedtime and I'm 5+ weeks post Tummy Tuck. I see my Doctor in ten days and hopefully she'll cut down on the time with the binder because I'm thinking the weather will be getting hot soon.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

Sue

I had a consult today with a PS and asked how long in compression garment, and he told me he doesn't have his patients wear one... I'm little nervous about doing that because I've always heard it helps with swelling. Anyone else been told this?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
