For those of you who have kids I wanted to know how did you deal with your child who thinks that they are your shadow and you are there chair? My three old thinks I am her chair her bed and anything else that requires her to be on me. My band date June 12th and I am just not sure how to let her know that she will not be able to climb on mommy.

I have a four year old and luckily unless she's sick she's not too clingy anymore. I plan on telling her about me going to the hospital the day before(why make her worry) and letting her know it's a belly issue and that she won't be able to jump or sit on me for awhile and that I can't pick her up, but that we can hug and kiss. I find that if I tell these things before hand and let her know she will be a big helper to me, she follows direction pretty well. I plan on having my husband "remind" her before I come home. I'm sure it will be tough. :wink2:

I think it will be better than you think. While you can't pick her up, the pain from the surgery is above your belly button and more to the left side. If you can remind her to be gentle about climbing onto your lap, you should be fine.

I agree, my daughter was nearly 3 and at 6 and a bit she is sitting on me right this minute.

It wasnt that bad, it honestly isnt a bad or painful surgery. Its not like she cant even lean on you or you couldnt hold a child on your lap as long as the elbows and knees are kept in control

I was banded four days ago and have a 1 and half year old and a three year old. Both very clingy. My three year I showed the bandaids on my stomach and told her mommy has a booboo and so she has been amazing. She still comes and sits on my lap, but I just tell her softly that mommy has a booboo and she is very gentle. My son on the other hand is too young to realize. I still lift him and hold him on my left hip since my right side seems to be more tender.

My 3 year old even helps me to go to the bathroom cause when she is sick I help her. It's actually really cute.

Make sure you find out what your lifting restriction is! Mine was 10lbs for 6 weeks! That's a gallon of milk!

My DD was just past 2 when I had my surgery. We talked about it ahead of time and I asked her if she would help mama. Of course she say yes! I weaned her off of falling asleep on me for naps and bedtime well before surgery. We'd already taken her side rail off her crib MONTHS before b/c she was too tall, so that wasn't a problem. She climbed on to my bed for diaper changes and dressing/undressing. If she wanted a hug, I sat down. If she wanted me to pick her up, we sat down and cuddled instead. She did great!

Also, I had a small child's sleeping pillow (got it at babies r us) that I used to put over my stomach. I used this pillow for when ever DD was on my lap or snuggling with me, to sleep with in case DH or DD (when she'd sneak in to bed with us) got near my stomach and it also reminded me to carefully turn over when changing sleeping positions. I also used this pillow in the car to cushion from the seatbelt! And sometimes I'd even sit with it on my stomach just b/c it felt good to hold it there! I didn't have to worry about even ME accidentally bumping something! LOL!

You'll figure it out as you go. If you can make a few changes now, that will help. Best wishes!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
