I'm new and curious about strength and toning exercises

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I was banded on April 29 with Dr. K. Awesome staff and a very awesome experience. I am feeling great and am trying to figure out best strength and toning excercises since I am starting to getting a little "jiggling" in my tummy and such. I was thinking Tai Chi or something like that. What has worked best??

In my opinion what will work best for you is something that you enjoy and will stick with. It doesn't matter which type of exercise you do as long as you get up and do it regularly. Something with both cardio for weight loss and strength for toning. Choose something that is fun and is comfortable for you, works with your schedule and in the most convenient location.

Jodi - thank you so much. I am so impressed with your achievements. They told me that I need to plan for 5 years. But I started at 308 and I am currently at 286 so far at 2 weeks after surgery. My goal is to get to 160, but like you I want to shoot for lower. Guess we will see.

I think things like tai chi are fantastic things to incorporate into any fitness program for the sort of mental release, flexibility and strength they give you.

But to really lose weight and tone up serious jiggles, you need to focus more heavily on cardio cardio cardio and some type of strength program that includes either weights such as machines or free weights or your body weight (pushups, dips, squats, lunges etc).

Tai chi is more the sort of thing you do for healthy relaxation and enjoyment on your day off from the hard core stuff.

Thanks Miss Cass.

Sounds like you are off to a great start. It doesn't necessarily take so long to lose the weight, five years seems a little long. It depends on how well you respond to the band, how well you follow-up with fills and stick to the bandster rules following a good diet/exercise routine. But losing the typical average of two pounds per week, you could possibly reach your goal in 1-1 1/2 years, maybe 2 years.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
