Hi all, it's been a long time since I've been to this forum. I have been so frustrated for most of the last year that I just chose to stay away. Not that I'm not happy for everyone here and all your successes but it just made me feel worse. Why have I been so frustrated, you ask? I had a leak. It was first noticed about 10 months ago then dismissed. I lost only 50 pounds then regained 10. It was not until a week and a half ago when my surgeon was giving me another fill that he finally noticed that half the saline was out of my band. Couldn't dismiss it anymore. To give him some credit, it appears as though until recently it was a slow leak and easly written off. Anyhow, I had surgery this past thursday to repair it. My surgeon replaced my port and trimmed my tubing. I am hoping that this will do the trick and I can finally succeed in this weight loss journey. At least maybe now I can come back around here with my head held high and not feel like such a loser.

So I ask, anyone else have this problem? I figure it's just my kind of luck and I am 1 in a million.

Thanks for 'listening' to me vent.

Holly so sorry to hear that you had to have surgery again. You know it's amazing that you were able to lose weight with the leak. You should be so proud of yourself. Just think how well you are going to do now. I can't wait to hear all about your progress. Join our summer weightloss challenge.

I have to tell you I feel so blessed, with my weightloss. I feel that mine has been made easier because my DH and DS also had surgery. We support each other. Then I have the support of this group. Additionally, I attend WW. Although, I have been at goal since last Aug with WW so now I generally just go for weigh-ins.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. I'm sure you will see the progress that you are wanting now. :D

I had my corrective surgery on May 7th, 2009 and I am happy to say it looks like a success. I am down more than 10 pounds already and I can finally feel restriction again. The only draw back is that I feel like I'm back at the beginning. I have to relearn what I can and cannot eat and how. But it's all good. This little bit of loss plus knowing the band is finally working right has me motivated all over again. This week I went back to my karate school, attended 3 classes already. I hadn't been there in almost a year! Plus I finally joined a gym and have had two work outs there this week as well, and one of them was even with a personal trainer. Things are looking up. I cant wait to catch up in weight loss to all of you, it will be a challenge but I can do it! :)

Way to go H! that makes me remember that I have GOT to get into a gym membership and actually use it! I am at the stalling spot and my activitiy levels MUST increase now for me to start losing again. I can't really go any tighter on my band, :smile2: i'm tight enough now. I just need to alter my activity levels...

With still about 70 pounds left to lose, i have a long way to go, but it's encouraging seeing someone like yourself with the "stick-to-it" kind of attitude. Keep up the good work!

Hi Holly, it hasn't been smooth sailing for me either. If you remember I had my band placed in the wrong spot so for 8 months I struggled before they realised their mistake. I had it replaced in July last year but have not been able to lose any more weight in that time. I lost some at first then put some of it back but nothing since. I am finally close to my "sweet" spot but because my motivation has gone down, I find myself eating things that only help maintain and not lose weight. That is why I am back at this site because I need to be around people who understand and can help motivate. I think you have done fabulously and are definitely on your way back. Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about your trouble Sades. To tell the truth, I was unaware of them as I had pretty much abanded this site after my own troubles began. It was hard seeing, seemingly, everyone else's weight continue to drop while mine stayed the same and even went up, so I ran away. I'm just now coming back and haven't really even gotten into any of the threads and topics yet. It is nice to know that I'm not alone though with having issues, even though that's kinda a sad thing to say too. I struggle with bad eating choices as well, so I certainly understand that part of your struggle. I hope you can manage to find your motivation. And I hope my determination and motivation stay in high gear for a long long time! Maybe we can help each other keep going strong.:rolleyes2:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
