Anyone banded May 7 2009?

Recommended Posts

It's now been 4 days since I was banded...I'm feeling ok. Surprisingly I really haven't been hungry at all since having the op - which is great!! I guess it's doing what it's supposed to do. My gas pains are mostly gone although I do get a little sharp pain every now and again in my shoulder and my stomach is still tender...but I'm ok to move around now...

How is everyone else holding up?? :frown:

Banded May 4th. 6th day after surgery was an amazing improvement. First day that I felt normal and could actually function.

Hey! I was banded May 7th as well. Had a rough weekend, but today has been better. I have the shoulder pain as well. Most of the gas in my belly is gone - thanks Gas-X! I am still really sore around my port site. I started with a nagging cough on Saturday and that has made it hurt even worse! Looking for relief in the next couple of days. My surgery book says it will take from one to three weeks to feel "normal". I'm shooting for one!!

Oh good, I'm so glad there are other people out there who are going through the same things I am at the same time....the pain in the shoulders is a killer...I'm feeling a lot better again today...only occasionally get the pain back in my shoulder and my stomach is feeling a little less tender.

I'm finding it extremely hard to take deep breaths though especially when I first wake up, yawn or cough- and when I manage to do it, I end up dry reaching (sorry prob too much info). Had an awful time last night with it....its like I'm vomiting but nothing actually comes out and then of course when it's over - the pain starts again. I might start another thread on it to see if other people have experienced it....

How are you all feeling today??

I was banded on the 8th of May. I was really lucky to not have experienced any of the shoulder pain. I read plenty about it and my boss told me she had it really bad so I was prepared. Also, my gas pains went away by bedtime the 1st night. I just walked it seems like miles through my house. I am actually surprised at the quick recovery. I do have some discomfort at the port site but other than that I feel good as far as pain goes. I do feel a little weak though. Today is my first day back at work. Yesterday I felt very hungry but I did good and stuck with it. Good luck to everyone.

Hi. I was also banded May 7th. :-) Gas pains lasted until yesterday, with Saturday being the worst. Nothing in the shoulders, all in the digestive tract. The worst part is that I can't burp. I can feel air in the lower part of my stomach and it tries to come up into the pouch, but it can't. A sharp pain ensues. Yikes!

I had diarrhea Monday. Sorry so graphic. But it helps to share. I felt much better afterward, with a lot of gas pressure relieved. I did use Gas X strips, but they did little.

I was really hungry yesterday, so I had a cup of strained cream of mushroom Soup in 1/2 cup increments. broth just wasn't cutting it. It was very satisfying. I wouldn't dare attempt anything thicker.

Looking forward to keeping track of everyone. Oh, BTW, I'm down 6.8# from surgery. Best of luck to all.

I had my surgery on May 7th as well. Today I am doing well. Bouts of fatigue every now and then. Small amount of pain in left shoulder due to eating to quickly. I am back to work as of Monday....

I am now 8 days post op. Tried to hit some golf balls today, but a little too much strain on my mid section. Feeling totally fine now with the exception of this lump sticking out from my belly! I went to soft diet after 5 days (without docs permission) but its really no problem. Just make sure to eat really slow, everything is cut up small and chew, chew, chew. I Have lost an average of a pound a day since surgery on my 1200 calorie diet.

Big fan of Ocean Spray Cran-Lemonade packets in the Water bottle.

Afternoon people

Well today is day 6....I'm feeling a lot better today. The last few nights I have still had my "chunder sessions" where I go to vomit but nothing comes out - I have no idea why it happens at night - it's like I hold it in all day and as soon as I put the boys to bed, it happens lol...

No pain in my shoulders or neck anymore...and still not very hungry - which is great! I have lost about 3kgs according to my dodgy scales...so that is awesome. I can't wait until I can actually SEE that I have lost weight....I'm starting to really really want some normal food now too though - who wouldn't after being on nut.fluids for 6 days right?! lol But I'm going to stick with it...I've come this far...just another 8 days to go until I can start on some mushies. YAY!

Kaparamo - I'm jealous that you didn't get any pains...that is fantastic  Good job doing all the walking around!

Chincotigger - I am also doing the 1/2cup increments...I've started having canned Tomato and canned pumpkin Soup - they taste fantastic compared to the yoghurt n custard n broth I've been living on haha

MLeone - by "soft diet" do you mean mostly mushy food? ? Like mashed potato etc?? I'm so scared that I will stretch my band if I try to eat anything else other than the "fluids"...

Good morning all. I hope everyone is on the mend and doing well. I had a great day yesterday ... got out to the beach for a bit of fresh air, took a little walk in the wildlife refuge, baked a cake for my family and then had a very bad idea -- hot and sour Soup. I thought, hey, it's virtually clear, I'll just have them make it not too hot. So, I bought and ate a half cup and it wasn't spicy at all. All evening and now this morning I'm having little pouch spasms that feel like incomplete burps. They happen a few times an hour. I'm sticking to clears this morning to see if I can settle things down.

Hey! I had the breathing pain issue too. It's better today. I went for my one week followup yesterday and the dr. said it was normal and would relieve itself as the stomach healed. My shoulder pain comes back every now and again, but not for long periods like at first. Hope today was a good day for you.

I am going start my exercise routine tomorrow. Light to medium cardio for the next week. Sunday I am going to plan my meals for the week.....Take care everyone.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
