My insurance says I must be at a BMI of 35. I told the doctors office that I am 5 foot 7 inches and 220 pounds. This gets me to 34.5 BMI. I checked my hight today and I am only 5 foot 6 1/2 inches. This would put me over 35 BMI. Do you think the doctor will lower my hight 1/2 inch or do they round up?

The doctor will have to actually measure and weigh you and provide documentation to insurance company. He should write down exact measurement if not just tell him that 1/2 inch really matters and he will comply.

....or go out to lunch before you Dr appt. Some Pasta and a DQ blizzard should get you to 35 without much problem...

My insurance requires the last 3 years your BMI has to have been 35 or higher.

I guess if your self pay you could fill your pockets with rolled coins or something.

The things we will do to be skinny!!!LOL

Then it sounds like the best thing is to see if your dr office would record your height as 5'6" or the 5' 61/2"

You can wear ankle weights under your pants that will give you the extra 10 pounds you would need.

I got pissed off when my first doctor recommended that to me. If he was truly interested in my health, having me add on more weight so that I could have surgery to lose weight is ridiculous.

Just eat chinese food the night before and drink drink drink on the way to the appt.

I was denied the first time through and I did gain weight to help me with my appeal and it worked.

All's well that ends well.

I would tell the Dr's office about the extra 1/2 inch and how important that 1/2 inch is. At some point before they submit it to your insurance, they should actually weigh and measure you, not just take your word for it. You could always hunch down ever so slightly when they take your height measurement. A lot of people here have recommended weights in your pockets or ankle weights, but when my Dr's office measured me they made me wear a hospital gown...so there was no hiding anything!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
