800 calories for dinner is alot if you have to stay in the 1000 calories why not try to just eat lunch and dinner and have your shake in the morning. you can have a lean cuisine or even go to subway they have some good sandwiches there or even flatbread sandwiches around 300 calories. and then for dinner stay around 500 which is pretty easy to do. one thing i can suggest is maybe get a eat this not that book its a real good book they have a supermarket guide one and also a restaurant guide one not all the restaurants are in there but a there are alot of popular ones in there that will help you if you do eat out alot. another thing is what ever you eat for dinner just try to keep the sodium and the fat calories down as much as possible and just see what the calories are if its like over 500 split it. eat half only. if you want you can also switch them get 500 calories for lunch so its easier to burn it and eat 300 calories for dinner since its at night and soon enough you will be going to bed. anything with a slow cooker is good usually if you like that sort of thing. but basically eat what you want but try to eat healthier and not alot of fat calories or sodium since sodium retains Water. just remember to drink alot of water throughout the day.

Wow, 800 cals for dinner sounds awesome. I've been doing 500 or so. :

I don't have any good recipes really, I get moderately convenient food, like instant frozen potatoes or frozen veggies.

Speaking of which, veggies make a good filler for not many calories. I like the mixed veggies (corn, peas and carrots) with a little tiny bit of butter or spray.

Mashed potatoes without a lot of butter are still pretty healthy.

Good luck!

I usually have a shake in the morning 150 cal, a 100 cal snack, lunch (usually a lean cuisine or something) 300 cal at the most, then dinner!

I like this..

1 can of black Beans

1 can of rotel mexican lime (drain)

mix them together and heat...

put it on a small bed of mixed greens and add reduced fat feta and ff balsamic dressing!

i can eat this for days! and its a good source of protein!!

If you like taco meat try this

Brown 1 pd of ground turkey then add low sodium taco seasoning ( the seasoning has 15 cal per serving)

heat up FF rf Beans

use the black bean mix that i used for the salad

get a bowl, put the meat down first, then rf beans, then black bean mix, then add ff sour cream and salsa!

I measure it out to 1 to 1 1/2 cup! Its good a very filling and ALOT of protein!

I buy 100 cal Snacks for in the middle of the day!

if you are craving chocolate ( i do sometimes) little debbie has 100 cal Snacks now~ they are really good!

hope this helps!

Personally, not being a night time eater, I'd have shaake for breakfast , a good lunch at about 400 calories, an afternoon snack and another shake and a big bowl of steamed vegies for dinner.

I couldnt ever ever ever ever ever get through the day on 2 shakes. I tried it for a few days and ended up passing out.

I dont think starving all day and eating a whole 800 calories at night time is in any way sane or sensible for weight loss and I'd be very surprised if that's really what the doctor intends. 800 calories for dinner is very ample, you could eat a moderate serve of almost anything and stay within that boundary. I'd definitely think about eating a bit of it during the day.

During my pre-op phase the nutritionist wants me to stay between 1200 & 1400 cal. to include 60-80 grams of Protein. I am not to use Protein Shakes until after surgery. One of the desired outcomes of this eating plan is to try to lose 10% of my starting weight prior to surgery. The rough plan given to me by the nutritionist for sticking to the 1200 cal was:

Breakfast - 300 cal

snack - 100 cal

lunch - 300 cal

Snack - 100 cal

Supper - 300 cal

Snack - 100 cal

One of the hardest habits for me to get out of is having my largest meal at Supper. I tend to "save up" for the end of the day. I am trying to stick with this formula, though I usually forgo the morning snack and have fewer calories for breakfast and reallocate those calories to the end of the day. I don't know if it is simply a learned habit from years of the same pattern, but I am just hungrier later in the day. I do make myself eat something for breakfast everyday now. That was something I never used to do.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
