Not Sure What's Wrong

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I have posted to this thread, but I can't get the initial postings from everyone else to come up. I don't know if it's because the thread is to large for my computer, or what the issue is. Is anyone else having this problem? Just curious about it, because I really need the support from you guys who are about my age. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Joan

Hi gamyj,

I really don't need anything in particular right now, I have just been waiting 2 years for my surgery and am a little stressed out about it since I still don't have a surgery date. I'm 53 years old. Thanks for the response. I can open the smaller threads, but the big 1 just won't open for me.

Hi, I'm soon to be 52 and have also been waiting 2 years to have the band. I'm still waiting for my insurance to say I can do it. Should know in about 2 weeks. I had given up for a while due to some infections that I had that prevented me from even thinking about the band. This is a great site. I have really learned a lot from it already. (this is my first post). I'm hoping to have my surgery before the summer is over God willing. I would love to keep in touch with you and see how we both make out with this.

Hi all, I am 50 and was banded on 06-17-09 and it took me awhile to make up my mind and find a surgeon I was really comfortable with. That said, I am doing very well and happy with my choice. I had a lot of shoulder pain last night but am better today. Keep in touch with me and let me know how it goes for both of you. You can email me if you want. kgibson6@tampabay.rr.com. Take Care and Good Luck.

I am 53 and had my surgery on May 15. I have lost about 30 lbs. post op. It took me about a yr. or longer to get surgery. I had an insurance change about the time I was to get it approved the first time. It seems to take so long and I think just about everyone has a horror story about ins. and doctor's office staff. I have got a lot from this board. Just reading the post lets you know your are not alone , someone is having the same problems and someone is at the same stage you are. I also get tips on things to eat. Protein Drinks and hi Protein foods. lots of good ideas. Good luck to you and ask lots of questions if you need to.

Hi,

Sorry, but I haven't been back to this thread since my initial post, so I missed your post. What part of TX do you live in? I would love to have my surgery before the end of summer to, but the hospital where my surgeon practices still doesn't have the Center of Excellence certification. I am going to call them tomorrow and see if they have heard anything yet. I would love to keep in touch with you and keep each other informed about what's going on with us.

I should hear from my insurance this week. I'm from East Texas, near Tyler. My surgeon is in Tyler, Dr. Hugh Babaneau. They do have the Center of Excellence certification. I'm really hoping to have it done soon.

Wootsie-- Have you checked out this site??

Bariatric Surgery

What's the actual website? There are a ton of things listed under Bariatric Surgery on Google. Is this a surgeons website, or just something about lap-band surgery?

I wish you luck with the insurance. My insurance will not pay for weight loss anything. So I am a self pay and I went to Mexico. My heart goes out to all of you that have jumped all the hoops the insurance company puts you through and still can't get a surgery date.

I wish I could have had the proceedure done here, but the cost was at a minimum $4000 more. For that money, I can go back to Tijuana and get my fills.

I am looking for people my age to stay connected with through this journey. I find the support helps. PM me and I'll share my email address if you want.

I keep good thoughts for your surgery days!!

Lotsabirds, Hi. I will go to Mexico for at least the first fill. I really want this surgeon/staff to do it since they banded me. I might look for a fill center in Phoenix after that, just depends on how it goes.

So how's it working for you? Are you happy you did it?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
