Gurgling, bubbling noises when eating? Could it be...

Recommended Posts

I have been banded now for 7 months and have had 3 fills. My last fill was when I reached my "sweet" spot however, I may be too tight. I gurgle and hear bubbling noises along with some pain of food going through the band with the most simple easy to chew foods. I have endured it because I want results but I may be doing myself an injustuce by doing so. Approximately 2 weeks ago I experienced pain around my sternum that I would imagine a heart patient might feel. Long story short, my band area was irritated for unknown reasons, but I suspect it's due to the tightness of the band causing the gurgling and bubbling noises. I have thought about having my LB Doc take a small amount of fill out to alleviate the noises. What are your thoughts? Has anyone had any experienced with this?

Hi Health,

I had the same problem after a fill that I had of 2 cc's, I was gurgling after I drank Fluid and I had pain after I ate certain things. I had to get a small defill of 0.5cc's and it made a huge difference. I have read that some posters have had even less then that taken out and it made a difference no more gurgling and tightness and still keeping restriction.

I TOTALLY understand the mental aspect of trying to deal with "being tight" to lose weight faster. It's been hard for me too.

the EXACT same thing is happeneingto me right now....the gurgling and the weird noises coming from my throat.

Im confused...wondering if im to tight....i have 7.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. And i think im having really good restriction...ive been losing good!! I have ALSO been putting off going to get an unfill cause i am afraid it will to TOO LESS of a fill for me. I dont know what i should do... DO you think i am hurting myself and the band by maybe being to tight?!? Let me know what you all think!!

Thanks so much!

Krystyn,

I had gurgling noises from my first fill, and I had no tightness issues, but after my third fill I had those same sounds but along with it came whatever I drank or ate. It would take me an hour to drink 1/2 a cup of Water. I had to get a defill, but only 0.5cc's. I still made noises but I could eat and drink again without pb....I would PB if I ate too much though. I would think that if you have pain and PBing after you eat your recommended quantities, chewing well and eating slowly then it might be a tightness issue. It's sooo hard to know what to do and wonder if you need a defill especially when your losing weight, but if you're PBing and have pain you're too tight.

I'm not worried about the noises, and neither was my clinic a when I had something to drink after my first fill.

This band is so confusing!!!!

the gurgling and the weird noises has nothing to do with the tightness or irritation, i keep getting these sound although i have no pain or over restriction, u should ask ur doc about it.

I get the noises too. When I wasnt filled enough I didnt have them now that I'm pretty tight I have them so I think it has to do with the band being tight. IMO

I also have experienced this when I am filled quite tight. It especially happens if I drink something too quickly or something cold. When I eat I have to make sure I put my fork down between bites and think about how much I chew. It's a process but I seem to be having success! good luck.

I have gurgling noises but I do not think it is because I am too tight. I do not feel that much restriction... I dont know...

I have been banded for 11 months. My last fill was in Sep. I felt all the symptoms of being tight. I didn't know better. I thought that PBing was normal once in a while. In Jan. I had .5 cc taken out of my 5.25cc that were in my 10cc band. I felt so much better. This past week I have been so tight that last Friday I was going to go to the emergency room since all day I couldn't hold anything down even liquid. After 2 days of liquids and soft foods I felt better.

Well this week I didn't get a full night sleep. As soon as I went into a deep sleep I had to throw up or was coughing for over 1 hour. I was not able to drink the amount of liquids that I should be taking in on a daily basis. I was miserable.

Well after having lunch today I really felt like I had enough....chicken and mashed potatoes, that didn't even stay down. I call my dr. since I didn't want to have another night of no sleeping. He had me come right in to the office. I was telling him all the problems I was having this past week and he took out all of my fill :) and I had to have a chest x-ray done to make sure I didn't slip. I felt so much better immediately.

I am now not allow to get a re-fill for another month. I am so scared after being restricted for 10 months and not feeling hungry. I worked so hard to lose this 75 lbs. I don't want to gain it back:scared2:Sorry to vent, and thanks for any advise!

Thanks to all for your comments and sharing your experiences. This helps with my decision making process. I will be calling my Doc on Monday to have a very small amount of fill taken out and hope and pray that I have a good amount of restriction.

Your venting is fine. That's what this blog is for. Congrats on the 75 lbs lost. That's a huge accomplishment.

OMG, I am so glad I came on here tonight, I just wish I did before I had some taken out yesterday....I have been having the same thing, gurgling noises, I can especially feel & hear them when I lay down at night to go to bed. I could barely get anything down this month, I had 5cc's in a 10 cc band, went to the doc yesterday and they removed .25cc's and I immediatley felt better, but now I can freely eat, like I did before my last fill....Like all of your posts, I am soooo scared to gain weight, I didn't want to get anything taken out but was so afraid of the constant sliming that the band was going to slip! So, I will try this week and have my next fill appt on 05/20, maybe putting some back I will find my sweet spot :-) Thanks to all for your posts, this is so helpful!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
