Possible postponement?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My Surgery is scheduled for May 8th! Very close now. I had my lab work and testing on Wednesday last week, and the scheduler called me today to tell me there were abnormalities on my EKG and I had to get clearance from a cardiologist and my surgery could be postponed. So I go tomorrow to a cardiologist and I think I'll be doing a stress test. I'm so upset right now. I almost don't care about any of the heart issues at the moment, it's just taken so long to get to the surgery I'd be so upset if it got postponed or canceled.

really sorry about the set back. i'm sure they just want to make sure you have a SAFE surgery. hate to sound harsh but it would do you no good to have the surgery if you never woke up from it afterwards. i hope all goes well!! and congrats on getting this far.

Yes, my friend said pretty much the same thing, I wouldn't enjoy the surgery much if I died on the table. I know, I know.

Just keep pushing forward, 1 step at a time. Time never stops passing and the final date will be scheduled then arrive sooner than you think.

abnormalities could be anything from a machine glitch to a small issue or a serious issue that could really matter. Don't read too much into this until you get all the info. I've had so many tests done for other issues, and if I worried about atypical results on them, I'd probably have keeled over from an anxiety attack by now. I think I worry more when they say the test came back normal haha

Relax tho - no one's perfect - not the person who administered the test or the person who read the results. More often than not, its nothing.

Relax, after my EKG I was told I had to do the stress test thing. I wasn't thrilled but what do you say? I have no achilles tendon in my right leg and can't wear a shoe with a back in it, so no athletic shoes so they did the stress test with an injection. No big deal at all. They'll probably do an echo cardiogram with the stress test which involves a radioactive isotope being injected and "photographed" a couple of times. Don't worry about it, I doubt they'll postpone your surgery for any reason.

My EKG was "abnormal" too. I was so worried and had to do a stress test. Well, it came out perfectly fine.

I know it is hard to think of postponing your surgery, but if something IS wrong, it is better to know beforehand and deal with that before going ahead. I am betting that your stress test will go fine and you will not have to postpone anything. I have a bad knee and was still able to do the test, it was not a big deal at all. Hang in there and let us know what happens. Best of luck to you.

I know how you feel. I sprained my ankle a couple weeks ago and my doctor wanted to postpone my surgery. I went back in to see him today, and he changed his mind, and I'm set for the 4th! I wasn't expecting him to change his mind at all, but I'm excited! I've waited a LONG time for this, and yes... postponing by a week or two seems so long! So hang in there, you may still get your date

One thing you do not want to mess with is the heart, it keeps ya goin!! You will be fine, it is better to find out if an issue is present than later or while you are on the table. Good luck.

Like everyone else has said.....don't worry until you have something to worry about. This is probably a glitch as was suggested.........hang in there....I know the feeling. I am seeing my surgeon tomorrow and hoping to get a date for surgery!

Please keep us updated on what you find out!

Good luck and cyber hugs!

Good news! Everything's fine, and the surgery will go as scheduled on the 8th! The cardiologist didn't find anything wrong at all.

Thanks everyone for being so nice and supportive. This board has really amazed me with that.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
