Officially Banded Yesterday 4/17

Recommended Posts

I go to the hospital at 9 am around 9:30 they took me back to get ready, put on the gown gave me a shot of heprin, some pepcid and another acid reducer. Then I met the anesthologist and the my Dr.'s PA they came in at 10:30 to give me my IV and had a hard time to find a good vein the first girl stuck me in my R hand and couldn't get it to flow so she got another girl to do it and she got it going in my left hand they said I had tiny veins. I cried a little while waiting b/c I kept thinking of my daughter not seeing her grow up. They took so long doing my pre-op stuff that my hubby didn't get to come back until right before I walked to the OR at 11 am (I wasn't to happy about that) So I laid on the table and they said here is something to make you relax then the next thing I knew I was in recovery. There was a nurse by my side the whole time. My hubby said that the Dr. came out and said you can go see her in 30 or 40 min and hour and a half later my hubby still wasn't back but that was because they had a hard time regulating my pain after surgery. When I woke up I said I'm in pain so they have me a shot of morphine then 10 min later I was like I'm still in pain so they gave me another shot of morphine then 10 min later I was still in pain and they said really and gave me a bigger dose of morphine then they wheeled me out of the waking up part of recovery and in a different part of recovery a 2:30 then my hubby came back and they told me that I had to drink 8oz of Water that was tough it took me 4 hrs to drink 8 oz of water 1 oz at a time, could feel the water gurggle as it went through the band and 1 oz of water made me feel full. I have the realize band. As soon as I was done with the water they said you can go. I got home and went to bed. I am still not hungry I have been sipping 100 % no sugar added fruit juice and taking my Vicodin. My hubby goes back to work on Wed. so I have until then to get my stamina back.

This will sound funny but I feel the band in my stomach hitting my other organs that is what is causing my pressure not so much pain but pressure especially when I stand and sit up. I haven't had any problem w/ gas either but I did take some swallows that were too big and I felt it. So I have to remind myself sip sip sip. Of my 5 inscisions the port one is the biggest at 2in approx. and the only one that hurts.

Over all I feel better than expected and would do it again in a heartbeat.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
