Hi everyone,

I'm so scared right now, I'm not even sure where to start.

I had my lap band done march 23/09, so its been just over 3 weeks now. Following my surgury, I was in a lot of pain, mostly in the upper stomache, and I vommited following my surgury 3 times (Probably from the anasthesia). Anyways, I havn't had much surgury before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, so I thought all this was normal. A week later I was feeling good.

Anyway, I have followed the diet perfectly, I have done everything just as I was told, but I have a problem. I can feel the band (or something) in my upper stomache (in the middle, just below my bra line. I have never been a small girl, but my stomache has never been big in this area, and there is definitly something there. I was telling a friend, who had lap band done, and she told me the following,

- she didn't have much pain- at all following surgury....

- she didn't have anything like this upper abdomen thing

- also, she said that my band might have slipped because I vommited.

Honestly, I am really scared. I can't afford to have another surgury ( finacially, mentally, and physically).

Has anyone every had anything like this? Or has anyone ever heard anything like this before?

Please help, I'm desperate :)

I can feel my port right below my bra line under my right boob. You'll find that you'll feel it even more when you get your first fill -- the doc tells you to lift your head and tighten your stomach which makes it poke out even more. I think you should follow up with your doc about the throwing up (assume you were at home and it was the first day -- nausea happens with the meds), but you can almost always feel your port so I would not worry too much. I had serious belly pain for the first 4-5 days following surgery--that was gas.

Good luck.

Ok, for now, just relax. Everybody is different......so it's very difficult to "compare" pain with somebody else. As for the vomiting, it's true that it should be kept to a minimum. My doc went to great lengths to ensure this (preop scopolimine patch, and liquid phenergan post op), but apparently your doc has their own plan. The thing to do is to check in with your surgeon if you have any concerns / questions.

Is it possible the thing you're feeling in your stomach is actually your port?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
