Help I start my 2 week pre op liquid diet 4/15

Recommended Posts

I am very nervous about this pre op liquid diet... 2 weeks, no food, today I feel like I have to eat everything in site. :)

My surgery is scheduled for 4/29. They said I would be on a liquid diet for about a month. Does anyone have any suggestions, did you feel this way? Is it really as bad as I am making it out to be? Please any suggestions are more than appreciated!

Cindy

The first 2-3 days were difficult for me, but...I kept with it, and next thing you know it got easier. I did have a glass of champagne on New Years Eve, but other than that I didn't cheat - I started my preop on 12/29.

Once you realize you are so close to surgery and that you can jeopardize the surgery and or make your recovery that much harder, it is easier to stick with it. As for liquids post surgery - well, that was the real easy part for me, as I had no interest in eatting for at least 10 days. No interest at all. Hoping you get through it - you can do this! You can!

OK, first is it really all liquid? Mine was a Liver Shrink with high Protein and included a sandwich of 97% deli meat. I used the sugar free popsciles to give me the sweet, drank lots of crystal lite type drink, and yogurt keep me happy. It was not bad, and key is to do MIND OVER MATTER!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
