Gas pain- help!

Recommended Posts

Anyone have quick fixes for gas pain? I have not been able to release ANY gas from surgery and am feeling quite uncomfortable because of it. Also, all 4 of my incisions feel fine, but my port is SUPER sore. How do you know if it is not laying right?

I learned in the Chat room Friday that a lot of people were suggesting Gas-X Strips (you know, put on tongue and they melt in mouth); I am getting some today. They also advise walking around and for me just leaning forward releases some gas. Gas is a very painful thing; I have never understood why in this day and age passing gas is supposed to be so funny:thumbdown:. Even cartoons are based on this concept ie "Chowder", etc. Of course my grandson (age 11) thinks it is hilarious. Cartoons today are mostly disgusting anyway, what happened to "Tom & Jerry" and "Bugs Bunny"? Man, do I sound old:blush:

I was banded 4/1/09 and my port incision is still sore, think that is just normal for a while.

Anyway, good luck.

I used Gas-X strips for a few months after surgery.

It really does help!:cool2:

It took a few months for my body to adjust to the changes and this really helped!

I still carry them in my purse! Just in case!

I did these exercises before I fell asleep. I only found this 8 days post surgery. http://medicalcenter.osu.edu/PatientEd/Materials/PDFDocs/surgery/how2get.pdf

Gas was gone by day 10.

Hey thanks for the link! It looks great! I am on the countdown for surgery and I'm trying to get everything organized for success. I screwed up on my preop diet yesterday (what with Easter and family etc.). But I tried to do damage control by eating slowly, chewing for a long time and didn't overfill my plate. Just had more carbs than I should have...oh well. I'm back on track today.

SASH, Your dog pic is super cute!!!

The nurse from my insurance company called today to see how I was doing ended up talking to 2 of them one has more experience wiht band paitents. She said I should be taking 2 Gas-X's about every 4 hours. I haven't had to much gas pain so I've only taken them when I felt like I needed one.

Confused

There is two kinds of gas:

1) The gas from what they pump into your abdominal cavity to make surgery easier.

2) the gas that your stomach and bowels make normally which is heightened as a result of having a band.

The first gas causes shoulder pain and pain under the diaphram

The second gas causes normal "I need to fart" pain.

I have suffered the first (for two days after surgery only) and not the second. But I have heard the second can happen. Not sure which Gas-X helps.....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
