Hi! I am Mary. I am awaiting my surgery date. Judging from many of the posts, we run a little slower here in Greensboro NC. It appears that most people go from seminar to surgery in about 2-3 months, mostly less than 4, but I have been in process for 5 already and they tell me surgery is running 2 months out. A little anxious, since I am an action person, not a "let's talk about it" person.. But that's ok, I know there is a reason...it's a good thing to make sure I am REALLY ready.

Hi Mary - Welcome to the group! How are things in NC? - I grew up in High Point and miss it a lot sometimes. I know in reading the posts sometimes it seems like people see they Dr. and have surgery a month later, but I don't think that's really true for a majority of people. I know I started last summer (going to my PCP for documented diet), got approved by Aetna a few weeks ago, but probably won't get a date until June. It is frustrating when you are ready and no one else seems to have the urgency you do. Just use the time to get prepared (stock up on Protein shakes:tongue_smilie:) and be as healthy as you can for surgery.

Good Luck!

Linda

Normally I think it is the insurance approval that makes it take so long. My was approved within days, so I had surgery 3 weeks after my phone call to make my consultation appointment. I attended the seminar the month before and began researching the procedure, so I already knew what to expect. I think once you get your insurance approval the rest will go by quickly.Good luck!

Hi! Im actually from Lexington,NC! I live in MO now and doing all of my pre and post out here then coming to NC to get the surgery done so my mom and take care of me!!!! I am going to raliegh and it was a quick process. They had my insurance back in just a few days. I chose to use a nutritionist and psy. person out of their people bc that is what takes so long and in the whole process it will be a month after I called the office because I have to wait till Im home for break. So maybe if you are not to far in the process you could go to raliegh since it is so close to greensboro. Good luck!

Hi Mary, I'm from Tulsa and it takes forever here as well. I am told now that my date will be in May. Insurance approved me about 1 1/2 weeks ago, I had a blood test on Wednesday (all of the other tests have spanned over the time period since November). Good luck and best wishes with yours.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
