I've been a lurker on this forum from time to time, but I thought it was time to actually introduce myself. After a journey of a couple of years with Doctor visits and insurance hoops to jump through, I finally got my approval for Lap-Band surgery yesterday. I'm so excited, but suddenly quite nervous at the same time! Part of that may be because I can't quite bring myself to believe that it's actually going to finally happen!

I've been on a doctor-supervised diet for the past 6 months and managed to lose about 16 pounds. That's been at a stall for about 1 1/2 months now. I'm hoping that when I start the 2-week pre-op liquid diet that will jump start my weight loss again. I'm a very slow loser, and I don't know how or if that will change with lap-band. I would like to lose about 130 pounds, but would be content with 100. I know that's a lofty goal, and I expect it to take a long time. But as long as I can continue to see progress, I know I can handle all of that.

I'm a married mother of two girls. It's been so long since I've been thin and fit that I really don't remember what it feels like! I'm so looking forward to being able to do some of the things with my family that I've been missing out on. (Like riding roller coasters again!)

Reading through some of the stories of people's progress and success has been very encouraging. It's great finding people who are willing to be so open about what they are going through in order to help others.

Thanks!

Hi there Lilly. Even though you are an admitted "lurker", I guess I can still welcome you aboard, so......welcome to lapbandtalk!! Now it's official!!

You are dead on about the people here. Many are brave and wise and will help you tremendously (some, like me, are neither brave, friendly or wise, lol). Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
