I got my liquid diet food kit yesterday. Really worried about the next two weeks before surgery. It would seem like I will be hungry all the time only on liquids. I am really concerned. I am going to have to really work at it. Like most others I can diet and lose a little weight but I always put it back on and more. Also, my husband will be eating his same diet so food will be around me all the time. My husband is a snack a holic if you know what I mean. And he does not need to lose weight!

Hi Junies,

My date just got moved up to June 30th  from

July 7th. I've been drinking 2-3 shakes a day and one healthy meal (low fat Protein, a salad & 1/2 C. carbs + 2 fruit servings a day) It has shrunk my stomach alot.

I've lost 15 lbs. slowly since Jan. I wanted to try different Shakes and Protein Drinks to find which ones I liked. I had to see a Dietician in Feb. so she suggested the above. Good luck June bandsters. We need to help each other as much as possible

I will have to start Protein Shakes 2 weeks before surgery:rolleyes2:.

I am another June 3. My liquid diet is a partial liquid diet. I had a lot of trouble with diarrhea the first week. Then I cut out the coffee and it's been a lot better. My surgeon also said I could eat a little more for dinner just say at 1000 calories for the whole day. So my diet is basically a shake for Breakfast and lunch and then dinner, a lean cuisine.

I have gone over the calories a couple days and way under the first couple days when it was all liquid no solids. I just couldn't stomach more than 3 of those shakes a day.

Hi Jennifer,

I have been using Dymatize whey Protein Isolate.

I mailed away for mine but have seen it at GNC and Whole Foods. Rich chocolate, Gourmet vanilla and

Cafe Mocha are my favorites. They mix easy and taste GREAT!! I Mix with 1% milk and will switch to skim during my Pre-op 2 weeks & post-op. Maybe we'll meet at Faulkner Support group??

Good Luck,

Carol D'

I am set for a June 28 surgery. I am not being asked to do any kind of liquid/modified diet beforehand. Is that normal?

Hi,

Every doctor is different? Your BMI is so low he might not be to concerned. My Dr. wanted me to lose 20-25 lbs. because I have 125 lbs. excess weight. I've seen all different scenarios. My date is June 30th so we'll be going thru this together.!!!!

Good Luck,

Carol D'

My banding is also June 3rd!

I bought 2 cases of low card slimfast from Amazon.com

I have a 10 day liquid diet, and it starts tomorrow! :smile2:

Went out to dinner Friday night and had a big ole steak.

Had pizza last night with vanilla ice cream and strawberries for desert.

Not sure how I"ll splurge tonight. lol

I'm very excited with a little bit of nervousness mixed in.

Best of luck to all of you!

My surgery is exactly 1 week from today - June 1!!!! I am so excited, my journey has gone very quickly. I had an introduction meeting on April 13th and now here I am one week from the main event! I am 3 days into my pre-op liquid diet. Its not very fun having to have Soup when it is 90 degrees and humid outside - oh well it is all worth it in the end (I hope)!

Congratulations! My surgery is on June 1st, too! I'm soo exited! My preop diet is not 100% liquid--can have limited other food (a Lean Cuisine and all the uncooked veggies I want, plus a 2 oz protien, 1 fruit, and 1 tsb fat). I usually have a salad w/protien for one meal, and the Lean Cuisine for the other.

And I LOVE the unjury chocolate Protein shakes. I would drink them even if I didn't have to---mix it with lowfat vanilla soy milk and it's great!

The big day is right around the corner. Hope everything goes well for you!

I don't think I can do the shakes! I was on a 16 week meta-fast liquid diet where all I "ate" were these powdered shakes that you mixed with water:eek:The most disgusting things ever! To this day I still gag when I think of them!!!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
