Extra... Blood? Probably TMI

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the abundance of info here but I figured some of you might be able to answer.

After surgery, when I would go to the bathroom, I would have a little bit of blood in my urine. I asked my nurse if this was normal and she said yes, it can be. I don't normally have periods so I was concerned. That has stopped now that I'm a few days post-op, but...

Now I have blood in my nose. Not nose bleeds. But when I go to blow my nose, there is a little bit of blood.

I assume this is also normal, as I had a good amount of blood thinners and my body is on the rebound from surgery, but I wanted to see if anyone else had this happen?

I don't mind calling the doctor's office to speak to the surgeon on call but I didn't want to call for something that's not important! Any answers are greatly appreciated!

Please call them if you are unsure. When I lived in a dryer climate I occasionally got a little blood in the mucus when I blew my nose. It also happens occasionally now if I have had a sinus infection or upper respiratory infection and have been blowing my nose a lot.

It is impossible to diagnose a person online, though; and you are safest to just call and ask. It can't hurt; they have heard questions way less worthy.

Blood when you blow your nose could be nothing more than dry air. If it's not warm yet where you live, the furnace could be responsible. Buy some Na-Sal (normal saline in a spray bottle for nasal use). Also comes in various store-brand names. That will moisturize the tissues in your nose and will likely stop the problem!

I called the surgeon on call at my doctor's office this morning and he basically said the same thing as you Cathy! Thank you both for the replies. Here it has been rainy and a little cold but two days ago it was sunny and 70, so he said the change, plus the probably dry air in the house would be a likely cause. He said if it doesn't clear up in the next few days, to call back but he wasn't concerned. :cursing:

I have also had this lately but I know it has nothing at all to do with the band or surgery. It happens every year at this time when the weather changes. I agree with using a little saline to moisturize and you should be good to go.

If you are worried, call the doctor just to be sure. However, I think this is just a common issue for those of us with sensitive noses.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
