Hello - I've been lurking around these boards for ages. I've been fighting for Lapband surgery since the beginning of 2008 and now I'm finally scheduled!!

April 16th is the day! I'm very excited...but nervous. I have a lot of weight to lose but I have a great at home support system to lean on.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be posting a lot more now that I actually have a date and my journey is officially starting.

I look forward to getting to know everyone.

We have the dame date for surgery! Good luck to you. I started this process in January and I am so happy to finally be scheduled, but I am a little nervous too. I go for my preop appt. on Mar. 31st. It's moving along pretty fast now that there is an actual date!

Hey there, Lurker!! How exciting for you to get your date!!!! Why did you have to fight for it? My day is April 6 (hopefully, I had a test come back bad so I have to retake it on the 3rd, if it comes back bad again, my doc won't do the surgery!! ) But anyway be sure and check out the Bunny Bandsters thread, it is a place for eveyone who is going to BA banded in April to get together and meet and share our thoughts. It's a great place!!!!

Thank you all for the warm hello's!

My doctor was against the surgery, she thought I was capable of losing all this weight without any help. I've been trying to lose weight for 20 years! I finally convinced her I needed her help to be approved. Then, I had a 6 month diet to finish. It was totally worth all the crap I went through to get here, having my date makes it all real!

I'll head over to the Bunny Bandsters area (what a cute name!).

Good luck to you! What is the 6mth diet for? What does it tell them? If you loose weight will they say - Oh you can do it yourself? I don't understand why they do that. I know pre-op why they do but ?? It will be a couple yrs for me in Ontario so I will likely go with self pay in awhile and get a loan to pay over 5 yrs or so. Worth it to me. I want a life back now not in 2 or 3 yrs. Keep us posted

My insurance carrier required it, not sure the reason behind it. I lost like 5 lbs. during the 6 months and I think I gained back 7, LOL. To be honest, I didn't put that much effort into the 6 month thing. I mean seriously, I'm 35 years old...do they have any CLUE how many diets I've been on??? This isn't my first rodeo!!!! :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
